Project Farm just did a big comparison today on these sets. Highly recommended video on YouTube. Kobalt was in the middle. Gearwrench, Husky, at the top. Vevor dead last.

Great kit, awesome warrany, teribble case. Have had this for almost 8 years. Some of the sockets rusted and the case was almost falling apart. Contacted Kobalt last year to see if they replace the sockets or the case (didn't have much hope but gave it a chance anyway). They asked for a couple of pictures for proof and then sent me an entire new kit. But the box is still the same design and very crapy.

How did you go about the request? I've had two of these for many years as well and the one case is held together with hot glue@this point; both of them have missing handles from infrequent, careful use.

I purchased the Dewalt set a while ago for about $20 more and couldn't be happier with it. Decent deal but lower quality set.

I have had this kit for about 5 years now (🤔) and it has been great. Carry it with me when I go out dirt bike riding. Zero complaints....

I look at Craftsman being a bit more of a safe choice based on kobalt/husky being really locked into one chain. Craftsman is available in other businesses so future support may be better for warranty. Project Farm did rate the Kobalt a bit higher though...

I see that. Since it's nearly 20 lbs lighter, how many tools is it missing vs the top 2? Almost doesn't seem like an apples to apples comparison.

Got this kit about 10 years ago when I bought my home. Same price back then. It's been invaluable. I've got a lot more tools since then but this is a big chunk of what you need for basic home and car maintenance.

You don't need that many sockets. If it's the same set I took back it does not have 10mm one of. The most common sockets needed.

I saw that review and then he pinned the comment about moving Kobalt up to 2nd, which others have mentioned here. I love PF, of course.
The one thing I think people need to think about is all of these sets are, at least in my mind, starter sets, or spares for a truck or car, or something like that. So for the sets he reviewed that didn't include this piece or that piece - no big deal - just pick that up. For example, maybe then you find a nice set of ratcheting flex head wrenches that none of those had, perhaps, but which are really important to you.
If you buy any of these sets and expect to not have to buy anything else or that every single piece in it is exactly what you need - that's gonna be disappointing.
For $99, I think the Kobalt seems like a good deal, as long as people don't try to fill every single need with this - or any set - it's a good base to build on imho. Not shilling - over the past 45 years or so I've acquired tons of different brands and filled way too many rolling chests and don't believe any one brand is the holy grail.

I would agree. I don't know there is a substantial difference in quality, though. So many sources building these sets. I'm not sure either are worth FOMO, as long as the price is reasonable and the pieces mostly fill out what you need to start with.
