To be clear, I redeemed on the Giftory website which generated a voucher, and on the voucher was some codes. Entering the code into AMC when purchasing my ticket made the ticket free. And then at the theater they scanned the voucher for the free popcorn/soda.
edit: not sure how long the voucher lasts. It's probably forever but I'd wait until you're ready to purchase the tickets anyway
