Free shipping if you don't have Prime? or should we hate?

These are so bad... Just don't

Your kid would rather throw it away and stare at the wall for entertainment.

I got the Fire HD 8 2018 for my mom in 2019. She barely used it, it collected dust, and 1 or 2 years ago, I tried setting it up just for watching netflix, hbo, etc in my car using my phone's hotspot. The amazon app store and prime video apps were no longer supported, the web browser barely worked, so I installed Fire toolbox, disabled whatever I could, installed updated version of the streaming apps, and the piece of garbage was still so slow and the streaming apps would only work with my phone's hotspot about 30% of the time, so I gave up and went back to using my 2013 Nexus 7 lmao. Truly would not recommend.

The Kindle deals seem pretty decent. I also have a Paperwhite 2018, and while it's also a little slow, I feel that's more tolerable in an e-reader. A new jailbreak was just released for these that enables a lot of cool stuff, so I got another one in Steel Blue for $32.09 using the same promo code. Thanks!

What about using it as a Home Assistant dashboard?

Sure, I learned about it from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4ZliC82RtA

All the relevant info and links are in the video and description. You can disable ads, install KOReader, play some basic games, etc. It's awesome. Here's the official guide, but the video definitely helps: https://kindlemodding.org/

Amazon could release an update at any time that patches this jailbreak, but if you follow all the instructions in the video and guide, you can stop the kindle from ever updating again, so it stays jailbroken forever. Since these are refurbs, they should still be on a jailbreakable firmware version when they arrive, and you can just skip wifi setup when you turn it on the first time in case Amazon releases a patch before you get it. There's a section in the video/guide to fill up the storage with junk files to prevent any official updates from downloading before you finish jailbreaking it.

These were awful when they were good.
