The HW Q990D is being treated as a top tier all around soundbar package, with balanced sound, punchy bass from the subwoofer, and strong Dolby Atmos support that makes movies and regular TV sound immersive. It is also praised for easy wireless setup, since only power needs to be wired, and the rear speakers can be placed near the main unit if needed. Reported drawbacks include occasional echo with Samsung TV Q Symphony, Bluetooth unpairing, and some setup resets to restore bass or audio. A few comments also flag Samsung firmware and support concerns, so it stands out most for home theater impact and flexibility.

  • Movie and TV viewers wanting a surround system with punchy bass, because it delivers balanced sound and supports Dolby Atmos for immersive playback.

  • Home theater upgraders replacing an older 5.1 or 5.2.4 setup, because it can sound like a major step up and handle regular shows well with adaptive sound.

  • Listeners who want wireless rear-speaker placement, because the surrounds and subwoofer only need power outlets and the setup can run without RCA cables.

  • Samsung TV owners using Q-Symphony, because it can integrate with the TV for a fuller soundstage when the setup behaves normally.

  • Shoppers who want a full home-theater replacement in one box, because it is still not close to a basic 5.2 channel system.

  • People who need a simple plug-and-play setup with Samsung TV integration, because Q-Symphony can produce echo and the bar may stop working until both devices are reset.

  • Owners who depend on stable wireless connections, because Bluetooth can unpair itself and the initial setup may need a reset before bass appears.

  • Buyers expecting long-term reliability, because one unit stopped outputting audio after about a year and a half and would not stay on for more than a couple minutes.

I wish those of us that have access could just help order for others instead of having people go through all that.

The F version is out. Just waiting on Sammy to put it on edd/epp you know me gonna wait in see. The F version has smaller form factor on the sub, but it's 2 of them facing back to back for more tub thumper.

I don't have space for 2 speakers. Does it work without connecting these 2 speakers? Is subwoofer wireless?
Subwoofer needs AC wall outlet plug & thats it. The surround speakers each need outlet power also. No need to run rca jacks through the walls or ceiling. I have my rear speakers on power strips, so I just flip the switch off when I only wanna use the sub & soundbar.

What a wild ride I just went on to get this deal today, thanks! Went down a small Reddit rabbithole, found a way to get an edu email address by actually filling out a very basic online college application and within an hour they had me my own email address, created a new Samsung account with it and the discount auto-applied and should be here by Halloween it says (hopefully).
Yes, just sign up for 1 class like pottery making, under water basket weaving, axe sharpening, mouth flame throwing, ebonics 101, at your local community college & you get an edu email.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

This soundbar is pretty hyped up here and I bought one for the reason.
One of the better sound bars out there but $700 price point is also up there. This is not a full scale audio system and not even close to a basic 5.2 channel system.

Wireless except the power
That's good to know. I have never researched on a sound bar. Maybe there are other setups with side wireless that I should be looking at as well.

Got an old lg sj9 and two back speakers that still works: sound is ok not great for fake Dolby atmos. Quirky and sluggish software/firmware from LG.

Would this be a worthy upgrade?

Bought the C version about 3 years ago. Worked well for about a year and a half. Then I noticed audio wasn't coming out of it.

Long story short, even after updating firmware, resetting the thing, turning it on with nothing plugged in, and other things, it won't stay on more than a couple minutes.

Paid $800 for a giant paper weight.

It was already on sale through Woot for about $900. They may still have it. If you want to wait for the F to get to this D discount price, you'll be waiting a while.

I've been looking for a new soundbar to replace my current 15 year old Vizio system from Costco. In researching, it seems like the Q990 series is consistently ranked the best all around soundbar regardless of model c, d, or f. Rolling the dice here. Hoping it lives up to all the hype.
Wow I literally have my Vizio home theatre as well that I bought from Costco in 2015😥

True. Yes it shipped. A handful were able to get it.
I had done pickup at PC Richard and Son and surprisingly it wasn't cancelled. It was also brand new. The employees were shocked.

how does this compare to the sennheiser ambeo plus (total 1600 bar $1000 sub $600, and no surround speakers), I walked by the ambeo demo in a Best Buy and felt like i hadn't heard such good music in years, but i'm not an audiophile.

I got mine 2 week ago, to replace my 5.2.4(ELAC + denon 4300H), i'm very happy with the results. The only cons, there is not OSD for the soundbar, but you can use your cellphone to control it in a better way
