I've never seen a gutter guard add any value other than cause more problems. My mom has had many different kinds for decades and they are all more trouble than they are worth.

Large debris sits on top of the guard and prevents water from going in so it just flows over the gutter, so you'll be cleaning the top off more often. Small debris like dirt and the little granule from your shingles make it through and still fill your gutters, but now you have to remove the guard to clean them out.

So much easier to just have an open gutter and get a blower attachment to blow them out once a year.
