No, Amazon will pull from third party inventory even if you are buying directly from them. That's how you get fake stuff even though you bought directly from a shipped and sold by Amazon listing.

Shipped and sold by Amazon, but is that good enough to guarantee they are genuine?

That's very disappointing to learn that genuine inventory and knock offs are all in the same bucket. Why Amazon hasn't realized that and keep items segregated ??

I actually just learned today that supposedly last month they announced they are going to stop mixing inventory. I didn't see a date that they gave so we'll see if that actually happens: https://www.geekwire.com/2025/aft...g-loathed/

The pack I bought in March for near this price have worked fine in my key fob at least. I think I used two more of them for something but I can't even remember what it was.

I have been seeing more items sold/shipped by amazon actually drop shipped directly from the seller instead. Purolator oil filters being one of them.

I asked an AI and it says Amazon is currently phasing it out and will completely stop commingling inventory by the end of 2025.

I hate commingled inventory as a customer.
I ordered a phone case from Amazon a few weeks ago and received one for another size of phone. Had Amazon reship and again received the wrong size. Some unscrupulous seller must have slapped another barcode over the original barcode and tainted their entire inventory. Ended up buying another case from a small online store as I was fed up.

Amazon went on the record and announced to their marketplace sellers they are ending the commingling program "later this year". The event was on Sep 17 according to the source.
It's hard to know if this program ended or not already. I've certainly received counterfeit trash level batteries from Amazon over the years. Returned some, successfully.
That being said, this isn't even a deal level unit price (70¢). For example Digikey sells these under part number P189-ND for 36¢. If you buy 20, it goes down to ¢28.6. Of course there's no free shipping or returns. But it's cheaper and no way you're getting a counterfeit battery from Digikey or Mouser.
