Seems to be the holiday price for the B5 83". Most retailers have it.

FWIW, the LG Partner Store had this for ~$1600. I got the B4 at that price point a few months back. It's in our man cave now. Great panel -- it's the same guts (for the most part) as the C4 (at the 83" size only). Unsure if that same premise applies to the B5 vs. C5 or not. According to perplexity, the C5 has a better panel.

But I think I just read somewhere on the LG Partner Store post that the 83" B5 has a worse processor than the 83" B4:

Which kinda makes sense. The C panel guts (which would include the 83" B4 series, but not the B5) are better than the typical B panel guts, even if the B is a year newer.

I don't understand why that would make sense. Because it has a better panel, they put in a worse processor?

In the 83" B4, they gave it the C series processor. This ONLY applied to the 83" size. Don't ask me why, but multiple sites have reported this to be the case.

LG did not even offer the B4 in 83" when they first introduced the series. All the B4s shared the same panel and processor (alpha 7 gen 2). When the market demanded a 83" B4, LG simply took the C4, with its better panel and processor (alpha 9 gen 7), changed the firmware to reduce its max brightness and sold it as the 83" B4. Even the ports on back of the 83" B4 are identical to the C4, and different from all other B4 sizes. Since the B5 had the 83" at launch, it shares the same lower end screen and processor as the other B5s.

That explains it. Thanks.

And although I was kinda kicking myself for getting a B4 when I could have gotten a B5 at the same price, I'm glad I landed where I did knowing more about the panels.

Is this 83 not suitable for bright room?

It's more like B series of any size. It goes B < C < G in brightness, quality, size, etc. I have an 83" C5 and it's bright as hell (too much in the basement so I keep it at 1% brightness.)

This does raise the question, though--can you force flash an 83 B4 back to a C4's firmware, to get that brightness back?

I did a dive into this using Perplexity... it seems as though it's unlikely and there is an inherent risk of bricking the set.

Regarding firmware:

Since the 83" B4 and C4 share the same processor and are very close in hardware, there might be some potential for similar firmware compatibility.

Still, LG typically tightly controls firmware by exact model number, panel, and features, so cross-flashing firmware (even between these similar 83" models) is not officially supported and may carry risk.

Community discussions mention the 83" B4 firmware could be quite close to C4, but no confirmed safe method or official tool exists for flashing C4 firmware onto an 83" B4.

In summary, the identical processor in the 83" B4 and C4 might make firmware differences smaller for this size, but LG does not officially support firmware cross-flashing, and differences in panel and other hardware remain. Proceeding with a firmware flash would be risky without clear official guidance or community-verified procedures.
