If you know what you need now, a full sized desktop is likely a better value. But the PCIe slot is great because it gives you a major expansion option compared to most mini PCs.

The slot supports bifurcation to give you essentially two x4 slots. If you decide that you want dGPUs later on, you can pair it with a dual OCuLink adapter card like the PH492-2W [amazon.com]. If you are using this for LLMs, the PCIe bandwidth lost by going to x4 may have little impact. Especially if your model fits entirely within the VRAM on the GPU.

I was just able to get my 2 workstations on encoding jobs. They're running like champs with all 64 cores running at 4.0 GHz+ non-stop. One is doing 1080p movies and the other is doing 4K movies. I'll update this thread after a month to see where they fall on the quality scale since the encoding jobs for the 4K movies will literally be 26-30 days long non-stop.
