I've been using this camera for over 3 years now. This is a great deal for anyone debating about it.

Also, the lens in this kit isn't all that great. Consider getting the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 G2 lens. It's an excellent lens for portraits.

There has been a widespread price reduction to about $2,198, generally promoted as a temporary one. Many people are speculating this has something to do with the rumored announcement of its successor, the Sony A7V, in the near future.

How good of a deal is this? I had a Fuji xt1 I sold a few years ago and have been wanting another camera. This is admittedly way more camera than I need, but not necessarily out of my budget.

For people that can't get the student discount, Greentoe has this same camera for $1849 (or possibly lower on a name your own price offer). For me, this student deal would come to $1834 after tax. The lens isn't useful to most people buying this level of camera and is a hassle to sell. The bag and battery are also probably not useful. The name brand UHS-II SD card has value. If the accessories aren't useful to you, the Greentoe price (includes tax) is in a similar ballpark and doesn't require a student discount. I recently purchased the Tamron 35-150mm lens for $1,450 from Greentoe and had a good experience, but I read they can charge restocking fees on returns, so be warned.
