That just points to inconsistencies in quality. One of the reviewers like the shirt he bought in early 2024 so he bought another one January 2025 and he said the new shirt was larger and 'a lot thinner.' The reviewer who got the sunburn bought his shirt late 2024. Most of the positive reviews from people who actually wore them out in the sun all day were from pre-2024. It's entirely possible that they used to be thick enough to justify the rating but aren't anymore. Seems like a reasonable thing to imagine happening from a no-name brand shirt company selling $8 shirts on amazon. Not sure how accurate camelcamelcamel is but apparently these shirts used to be $22. Now the fake 'regular price' is $18 after years of inflation and fresh tariffs. Just saying...
I have the long sleeve version w/o the hood and have yet to be burned. 1-6+ hours in the Florida sun and I'm fine. No sunscreen. Only parts of me that get burned are the ones that aren't covered, usually my hands. Mainly use them for yard work so only out in the sun for about 2 hours. W/O being covered I'm burned in 30 minutes.
Mine were ordered June 25th and Oct 9 of 2024 for reference since other comments talk about when people might have purchased when reviewing.
I prefer darker colors for hiding stains, but I think lighter colors keep me slightly cooler. Either way I'm always baking in the Florida sun. I avoid the sun, it's too bright. I've enjoyed working nights for 15-20 years.

Why do car companies make so many white, black, silver and gray cars? That's what will sell easily. Dealers generally don't want weird colors on the lot because they might sit there for 3-6-12 months until that one "I love cornsilk blue!" shopper comes onto the lot.
It's depressing looking at a modern mass of cars. We used to get tons of bright, fun, silly colors and now it's just a sea of white, grey, black, and dark blue which may as well be grey. Now the flat grey paint is popular even on high end luxury cars and it's the ugliest yet.

It also keeps your insurance costs low. Imagine you dinged your summer-evening-mint-green car and the body shop wants to paint - unless you want single-spotted-mint-colored-leopard car
How well do the hoods fit? I dont see drawstrings there.
Yeah no drawstrings so it just loosely flops on your head and easily slips off since it's soft and silky like. I have the thumb version of these. I think they're great for wearing around the house as they're really comfortable. I wouldn't wear them out or do yardwork in them though, they are really thin and seem like they would snag on things very easily
I got this shirt at beginning of summer. Tan. Wore it a lot. I'm no stranger to the sun. Spent a lot of time in the sun with this shirt. I think it helped protect me most the time from the sun. A couple times though, I got burnt a good amount through the shirt. I'm not 100% sold on the sun protection. It's probably better than nothing, but it's definitely not like armor for against the sun.
One vampire leaves a review and it wipes out the other 20 reviews that are happy with the sun protection. People are so funny.
The missing variable is the amount of melanin the person has. For example, being a redhead, without protection (clothing or sunblock), will get a sunburn in 20 minutes. I never tan. My brother, who has dark hair and far darker skin, can go outside for hours and hours and get a tan.
