I prefer models with replaceable batteries. I have several of this $20 First Alert from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...X0DER&th=1

A decade ago when they first started carrying those, I replaced a bunch of them in family member's homes, and some of them didn't even last a year before going off randomly. Returned them all, and the next batch barely made it 2-3 years. Tried them again about five years ago and they lasted a little over 3 years. Wouldn't touch anything made by those asshats with a ten foot pole again.
thanks for this feedback, I think I'm going to go crazy and try this unknown X-Sense brand. Seems to have more solid reviews

User reviews are the easiest thing in the world to buy. Don't trust them

Always have something like this in the house NOT connected to another overall system.
If one system goes off or fails you want to be safe.

true but at this point I've tried Kidde and it has the alert issue, the first alert everyone is saying sucks as well, not many other choices to try

Kidde has turned to crap. They filed for chapter 11 in 2023. I'm in the process of moving to first alert since costco had a sale on them recently. Also the reviews for first alert seem to be just as terrible so we're just all hosed and going to all get smoked out of our homes or live with constant false alarms
"AI Overview
Kidde did not go bankrupt in 2023. It was Kidde-Fenwal, an affiliate focusing on industrial fire suppression systems, that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2023. The residential products sold under the Kidde name were not part of this bankruptcy filing"

Maybe rice absorbs carbon monoxide. That's a question for chatGTP

Was it a false alarm

Yeah it was 5 beeps (end of life) as opposed to 4 (elevated carbon monoxide)

On Walmart they have a combo pack smoke detector and CO, wall and plug versions for 38. Pretty good deal but low stock I think it's going to get canceled. Kidde brand.
