Support can be a little iffy. Most AMD motherboards will get bios updates with newer AGESA. I would be surprised if there is more than 2 or 3 bios available for this board. I've had several minisforum/Beelink, etc. mini PCs and they rarely get 1 update let alone updates like a regular motherboard.

I don't have this product, but have been looking at it for a while since it peek my interest. Based on what I read at various sites, it seems this board have quite a few perks. Since it have 16 cores, I guess the intended audience would be interested in a heavy workload. According to CPU-monkey, the 7945hx3D scored a 33450 vs 38640 from a 7950x, it has 86% multicore performance of a 7950x while having a TDP of 77w, vs 175W from 7950x. Similar story to the single core performance, 1956 vs 2205, almost 90% of 7950x. The efficiency makes it very compelling for whoever prefer a smaller setup. They can get top tier performance while keeping heat manageable. The downside is the CPU is soldered in, which won't allow future CPU-swap for upgrade, it also use laptop rams, which limit your DRAM selection.

I put this in K49BL case with 48 GB of ram and a 9070 (non xt) as my bazzite console gaming pc in my living room. It rips and produces very little heat due to the laptop variant of the cpu and the 9070 also being very cooling efficient (plus an undervolt applied). If you look at SFFPC reddit there are a lot of people using this board for the same purpose. It's great. Also, they just used it today in the most recent LTT video where they set up their new 16-player gaming setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yanqmc01ck

Community Reviews

This barebones MoDT board is mainly a compact, high performance platform for gaming and small form factor builds. The Ryzen 9 7945HX3D is described as delivering near desktop class speed with much lower power draw, and the X3D cache makes it especially appealing for games. It also fits living room PCs, home servers, NAS and VM heavy setups, often with modest PSU needs and manageable heat. The main tradeoffs are the soldered CPU, laptop memory limits, the weak 610M integrated graphics, and concerns about sparse BIOS support and higher RAM prices. A strong fit when space and efficiency matter more than upgrade flexibility.

Can someone explain the typical use-case for this?

mounts to the bottom of my pinball table or inside one of my stand up arcades to play way more modern content than they were built to support.

Does x16 slot support bifurcation for x4x4x4x4? Thinking about running truenas with 6x NVMe.
I have some minsforum boxes, but you'd have to be insane to run a NAS from one. You're buying stuff that you know has a high failure rate with basically no post-sales support.

Is the 3D cache really worth the price? I picked up a refurb 795s7 which is their BD795i SE motherboard (no x3D). Comes with a case, power supply, 1 tb nvme, and 32 gb of RAM for only $360. Added a 5060 low profile card and the entire system is sitting at $690 fully functional.

I have the EM780 from Minisforum attached to our TV for gaming. Have no issues. It was around this price for a full prebuilt, uses much less power, and I can even run it from a 65w backup battery (uses about 1% every 45 seconds, but it does work!). Only issue now is the model was discontinued so no dice for current buyers.
Does this APU really only have a 610m for graphics?? I saw that and figured if I have a 7840u and this is a 7945HX that it would have at least a 700 series and likely the 760 or 780.

it really does have a 610 for graphics unfortunately. I hoped for at least a 780m as well but I knew I'd be adding a discrete gpu anyways

By my understanding it only has a 610m because it's assumed if you're buying an hx series, especially the x3d variant, that you'll be using dedicated graphics card.

What fan did you use on your CPU? I used a thermaltake 120 I had and put it in a shinysnake L400 case, and the fan rips once it hits 88-90 degrees, so loud and tons of heat. I tried a thermal pad too. I know the temps are normal for it to operate at due to its architecture but just curious what you used.
Noctua NF-A12x25 G2. Used Noctua NT-H2 to repast the heatsink. If you didn't repaste, you might want to because the factory stuff on my board was already pumped out from the contact plate and dried/cracking. My gaming temps are in the mid 60s max and nearly silent. If I do aida64 or something I can get in the 80s, but not normal gaming load.

I have the non-x3d version of this and it has been a fantastic home lab machine. The max supported memory speed is fairly slow, but the thing is rock solid. For this x3d version, the 8 cores with the extra cache will be much less sensitive to memory speed. Ordered one of these to update my 5800x desktop.

I've got the non-Xd in this format and have loved owning it.

I just bought the non3d model on amazon and its arriving today. Mostly going to be used as a 1080p/1440p gaming rig with a 5070. Is this worth the extra $100 for performance?
i don't think the 3d vs none 3d version of the laptop chip makes much difference, like 5%

I believe I've heard that it does but better check out Level1 techs videos on these, you would probably be better off saving a bit of cash and getting the non-x3D variant of this board though for a server, you are basically spending an extra $180 for cache that won't benefit you much in TrueNas.Purely out of curiousity. What's your use case for an NVME array? I have a HD array that serves me well for large storage, I'm just racking my brain on what I'd do with a NVME array in a non commercial setting lol
Thanks for mentioning Level1 techs on YouTube. Wendell has review videos on both this one and the non-X3D variant that are absolutely worth checking out if you're interested in these. He seems to have a decent amount of familiarity with the product, although of course he couldn't speak on long-term reliability as they were fairly new when he was doing the reviews.

I want to do a mini-ITX build and would likely use one of these, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet since my i7-12700 based system is still plenty good enough for my needs.

Of course... I could get one of these little things and install in it a giant E-ATX size case just to be different.
