What is the consensus, is Intel going to provide driver support for this card well into the future or should I look elsewhere?

Well they're updating drivers like every couple weeks at least, so it looks good now.
I don't know of a better value right now. For gaming anyways, my card works well.

Seems like theres actually strong interest in their budget GPU options and there is support for them even in most games it seems.

Their market share is < 1%, and Intel is ever firing people. They recently announced next round of laying off. I personally think they don't need to announce because they anyway always fire people. GPU is not their core strength, they won't be able to keep this product for long at this market share.

Not sure they're actually making any profit yet on these GPU, but I'm pretty sure there is a market for budget graphics cards if someone actually wants to make them.
I think intel in the past is not known for firing people, yeah things have changed lately but they were known for huge benefits for tenured employees. I think if anything historically they've probably had too many employees.
Plus apparently the US government/Trump wants to keep them going.

I got a 3070 8GB... quick search I found multiple comparisons like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD5VP0J3Hw0

At 1080p and 1440p, the 3070 does a little to a lot better... and you can find plenty for similar price.

Why would this Intel be better? Yes I see 12GB vs 8GB, but that didn't seem to do much in games even at 1440p. No way expecting 4k on either card to be playable unless setting are turned way down.

Thanks!

Good luck with 8GBVRAM. BF6 running on high settings at 1440p uses around 7.8 GB already. My B580 runs super smoothly on high settings with memory margin to spare.

nvidia locks their GPU transcoding potential down to help differentiate product. You can work around it, but many people prefer not to. I am also thinking the 3070 does not support AV1 encoding, which is one of the Intel GPU's strongest points. This card would be way better for streaming a home library to devices around the house (or across the internet).

As a video card for gaming, expect 12GB to be more important as time goes on. People that want to play at 1440p are already hitting the ceiling with 8GB cards on some titles.

The B580 is a decent GPU with a modest price. I don't think it's bad choice for many use cases. I would view it as a sidegrade to a 3070 very rarely worth making the switch. Just keep stacking bills and get something significantly better in the future.

Your statement is complete nonsensical BS. 1440P Native has been choiked by 8GB of VRAM for a few years now. DLSS is the only thing thats allowing Nvidia to get away with it and thats only because it is not acutally rendering 1440P. If you want to shill cards without enough VRAM, then state that fact up front.

Currently 12GB of VRAM is bottlenecking 3440x1440 in some games. I have a 3080 12GB and I can 100% attest to that. IFF intel manages to keep on top of drivers this ARC card will age better than the NVIDIA card, but that is a huge amount of trust in Intel to finish what they started.

Thanks all for input.

For one who said my "statement is complete nonsensical" I just l clicked through a bunch of videos comparing the exact same two cards and the 3070 was equal or %20 faster for all the games I saw.

For the AV1 encoding, that's great to know! My focus was on gaming @ 1440p. As noted above, comparison vids seemed to show the 3070 better all around.

I totally get the attraction of 12GB... but IMHO, keeping frame rate playable is far more important than eye candy in games.

too each their own.

Intel is not abandoning ARC. They need ARC cores for their current iGPU (vast majority of laptops) and their hugely profitable datacenter machine learning products.

Great comments, thanks. I didn't even consider the AV1 encoding. I imagine that would help with the occasional video editing that I do.

Exactly. Some people are more in tune to frame rate, while others are into resolution. We also have different monitors or upgrade plans. The gaming experience is different for everybody, which means no one card is best in any particular situation. I did pick up on your use case, which is why I mentioned streaming in particular. It is a niche use, but one place where the Arcs are pretty darn awesome.

Recently? There are no current layoffs happening. I am a 26 year Intel fab employee. Like any large company, Intel trims unprofitable divisions every now and then (not like Google though, which is constantly cancelling or renaming ever product that produce, whether that means job losses or not, I don't know).
I have no access to any insider information, but the internal and public statements that have made about Arc, shows that Intel is dedicated to it in the long run, despite the recent NVIDIA partnership.
