A lot of negative comments in this thread. How about a regular family of 5 can actually have a decent Thanksgiving for only $40.

Some of you need to think of it like that. A lot of families are just trying to get by with food on the table and this is a way for them to have a nice holiday meal together.

Not everyone is trying to feed 10-20 people. Just some "food" for thought.

To estimate you typically say 1lb per person so it feeds 14 and that takes all the waste into consideration. Most people eat 8oz or less if you actually keep track.

Most of a 14 pound turkey is waste. You don't get anywhere near 14 pounds of meat off it.

What exactly is deceptive about telling you exactly what you're going to get for $40?

The "servings" advertised are completely inline with every other food item you buy at the store.

I guess you are sporting a Hitler avatar, so your comment makes more sense in that context.
Here's the heading on their website: "Host Thanksgiving for 10 for just $40"
I'll let you figure out how it's deceptive and then you can respond. Your reading comprehension skills are on the line.

Then don't advertise it as feeding 10 people.

Yeah, it typically costs my parents a $200-300 to feed their family of 6, plus a few plates to be sent to relatives.
Any way you cut it, $40 for a full meal for 5 to 10 people is $8.00 per person for 5, $4.00 per person for 10 people. Thing about going to McDonalds, BK or whatever with 10 people it's going be $50 + and there won't be any pie! Think this deal is worth it! I'm going to go to Aldis and buy 2 of these TG dinners and donate to a churches food pantry. Big Joe

We're you born yesterday? It doesn't say, 14 pounds of meat! You do realize animals have bones? When you buy a t-bone, you are paying for the bone as well. Genius!!!

While I enjoy cooking, this seems perfect for less ambitious cooks.

"Host Thanksgiving for 10" doesn't mean "stuff 10 people to the gullet for $40". You could "host" 20 people with this meal and they wouldn't be wrong.

Most normal people understand that this isn't a 10 person meal, just as a 10 person tent isn't actually sleeping 10 people in it. That's not deceptive marketing, it's marketing. As a consumer, you're supposed to be savvy enough make rational decisions despite clever marketing.

For a small family who wants to host Thanksgiving on a budget, this is a great start. Money is tight for a lot of families, and Aldi is generally a very consumer friendly store and conscious enough to keep prices low.

I appreciate the 50-cent green beans. I use them to help make homemade dog food. 10 lbs of potatoes for 3.25$ is a great deal, too.

For the smaller turkey everyone is talking about... 77 cents per lb is actually overpriced to me.

Next Wednesday, Lidl is going to have turkeys for 25 cents/lb (https://www.lidl.com/flyer/esi-fl...yer/page/1) so you can go ahead and get an 18, 20+ lb turkey if you do need to feed 10+ people. I'm sure other stores will follow suit. Last year, Lidl had them for 29 cents/lb and Kroger, Ingles, Publix, and more all that them under 50 cents per pound.

I have a huge extended family and hosting 12+ generally means I have a large turkey and a ham to cover. Sometimes, I have 2 smaller turkeys, and I make them slightly differently like Cajun and regular roasted. If I can find ones around 10 lbs, I will do a double-rotisserie on my grill outside - a nice twist!

I agree on the turkey pricing. Most local grocery stores have turkey super cheap just prior to Thanksgiving. Usually around $.29/lb with a minimum in store purchase of $30. Then they put the "leftover" turkeys on clearance sale immediately afterwards.

14-4= 10 lbs. Even if we went higher 14-7 = 7lbs of meat still equals a half pound of meat for 14 servings.
There's no way you get anywhere near 10 lbs of meat off a 14 lb bird. On a larger bird, you might get 50% of the raw weight as meat. On a bird this size, probably closer to 40-45%. Between bones and ligaments and drippings, this 14 lb turkey will probably yield around 6 lbs of meat, give or take a few ounces.

This is still a good deal, especially for a bundled one stop shop. And it's honestly probably a reasonable amount of food for 10 people, but 6-8 is probably more realistic if you're expecting the kind of meal where everyone leaves the table stuffed.

Not sure where you're getting your prices. Cheapest canned pumpkin I can find is 85¢ at Walmart. Cheapest fried onions - $1.79 at Aldi. Hawaiian Rolls - $1.99 at Aldi. Shells and cheese - $1.29 per package at Aldi (not for 2). Onions $1.65. Whipped topping $2.19. 2 boxes of stuffing $1.48. 10 lb potatoes $3.25.

Most of the prices I can find are higher than what you've listed, and it comes out to over $40, and that's with shopping at 3 different stores. Plus most of these items are from Aldi where in my experience, items are often out of stock. So you're likely to have to pick them up higher elsewhere.

With this deal, they'll be bundled together and guraranteed. The truth is this is a good deal, especially for a one stop shop with the items bundled.
