Had a coupon as well. $3.20 including tax. I have a small ten pound dog staying with me and think it will be perfect for his water bowl. If not, will use as intended.

They are a little of both. You can hold it up and it will not fold, but if you put any weight on it while in the air it will fold. There are molded "legs" that keep it solid on any surface but you can not carry anything in it.

I have this. I don't think there is anything special about it compared to other similar products. It's just a silicone mat.

That being said, I do like it. It seems like it is well made. I appreciate the functionality this and similar products provide. It's a simple, durable, dishwasher-safe mat that you place your cooking utensils on. It's a tool that a lot of people would appreciate. And at $3.50, this particular mat is a good option.

If she's asking, that's a red flag.

  • Silicone is much softer. You don't have to be as gentle when dropping metal utensils as you would with a ceramic plate.
  • It's nice to have something dedicated to this role that you leave near your griddle. If you have an extra plate, great. If not, then this is a decent option to buy.
  • Silicon has a high temperature rating. Leaving a spatula flat on the griddle for a minute and then setting it on a plate could damage a plate.

To be honest, I love the plate suggestion. I often bring out a spare plate or 2 in addition to the silicone mat when griddling. A silicone mat is not necessary, but it is useful.
