Garmin has 2x the battery life, but few general purpose apps. If you want to count your steps it's fine, but if you want to order Domino's it's not going to happen.
Apple has most of the apps in the Apple ecosystem and a cellular connection so you can use it without a phone nearby to stay connected with calls/texts/data with a watch data plan.
While Apple watches require more frequent charging, the charging is quicker quicker and easier than with Garmin watches. I can put my Apple watch on a wireless charger before showering and by the time I'm dressed it's charged. Garmin watches usually require a proprietary cable and an hour+ to fully charge.
