My personal favorite hard drive to use in NAS or 24/7 server. Near silent at idle, and not too loud during reads (though file indexing can get a bit loud).

First time buying server hard drives. Is it worth saving a little and getting recertified?
Also, whats the difference between all the 22tb HDDs listed here. Why would some have 2 and other have 3 year warranty?

Some are recertified, some are refurbished, some are new, some are just different model numbers, some have different interfaces. But yes people on /r/DataHoarder and /r/Plex definitely recommend recertified and ServerPartDeals is very good about replacing them if you have any issues. I can't tell you why some have longer warranties than others.

Just like with anything else you have to decide if you are ok with used or not. IF your ok with used then just like anything else you can get used cheaper than new! Enterprise hard drives are made for data centers to run 24/7 for years and years and years. Quite often drive capacity goes up and it is better for a datacenter to buy new larger capacity drives to increase their storage then to keep drives that are only a couple years old but still have years left in them ( years of 24/7 usage left) for a home server or archival storage they can last much longer. I would trust a 5 year old enterprise hard drive over a brand new consumer grade hard drive for storage any day of the week!

I dont see many people mentioned so i just want to bring this up. WD offer 20% discount for students/teacher with a edu account. You can only use it once per year, apply to the whole order. I just grab 2x 26tb wd red pro, msrp for $520 each. After apply the 20% it came down to $415 each, $15.9/tb.

Most of the deal i saw is around $17.3/tb. Like this deal here, a lot people seem to agree this is a great deal at $17.7/tb for used parts, whereas you only pay $30 more, you get brand new drive, 18% more storage with manufacturer warranty. Not sure if i miss anything, but that student discount seems great to me. You can use the code on any drive capacity, does not have to be 26tb.

Never, and I do mean never, buy a used or refurbished spinning hard drive.
Meh; depends on environment/use-case

Actually yes. Whole network closet is in my bedroom closet. It was the best place for it. Noise level is important
