For browsing websites, shopping and YouTube, I would shoot for something at $499 and try not to spend more.

$749 the actual price and now it's $679. Where did you get $2,420?

For those of you wondering if this is a good price. Answer is no. This is a U processor. This is not a $2000 laptop. Retail value for something like this is probably closer to like 750 to 850 (I wouldn't even spend that much on this). If you want something better, look for a laptop with a 256V or 258V processor. You can find them on SD once in a while for a decent price.

Ha, looks like Walmart updated it, showed the $2k price before with the crossed out original price. I do like the look of this laptop but haven't pulled the trigger. Dell seems like a good brand, from what I can see, but there's so much "noise" about processing speeds, screen brightness, battery life and backlit keyboards.I want this computer primarily for excel, word, ChatGPT, PowerPoint, some YouTube streamjng and web surfing. I also want it to be future proof for a few years. Forgot to mention I need it for zoom and teams too, is this a good laptop for the above tasks? Or should I spend more or less? Suggestions welcome!

Curious to know why? In addition to MyDixieRekt specs I need a laptop for zoom, teams and MS office, would your opinion be the same for these too?

I think I would have to agree with LostWallet. This Dell is a good machine for the office stuff you mentioned (MS Office, Teams, Zoom, etc), but you probably don't need all of the specs (unless you can take really good care of it and nurse it along for 7-8 years - careful transportation, no bumps or drops, keeping it cool, not placing it atop your bedspread while operating in bed, etc).

Key items:
- memory: even though 8GB is probably adequate for now (you'd be surprised how many apps and broswer tabs you can run on 8GB!) it seems like an acceptable amount of memory is steadily heading towards 16GB
- storage: for most people, 256GB is more than enough (that could store thousands of documents and spreadsheets), but perhaps 512GB is a good size to aim for (unless you store a _lot_ of photos and videos, in which case 1TB might be better)
- a decent processor: the cheapest you'd want to go is an Intel i3 (not the N305, which is a bit hobbled; definitely no Celerons or equivalent)

One good example:

Lenovo V15G4 IRU 15.6" laptop - has an Intel Core i3-1315U processor, 16GB memory, 512GB storage, full HD screen. No fingerprint reader or backlit keyboard, but more than enough for your requirements. $379.99. May drop to $350 (or even $300, for us dreamers!)

I have been using this for much of 2025
https://slickdeals.net/f/18752899-lenovo-ideapad-1i-laptop-15-6-fhd-touchscreen-i5-1335u-8gb-ddr4-256gb-ssd-299-99-free-shipping?attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3AFalse%7CSearch%3AType%3Anormal%7CSearch%3ASort%3Arelevance%7CSearch%3AHideExpired%3AFalse&src=SiteSearchV2Algo1
for web shopping, reading and zoom meetings and it has worked fine having Brave, Edge Opera Chrome and Firefox browsers going. I don't have Office and I don't watch movies with it. When I switched to a better spec Dell there was fan noise, so I returned it and switched back but soon I will migrate to this new Lenovo

But now I think this one

is the better bang for the $.

Thank you, what do you think about this one. I know it's more expensive, but it does seem to have a lot more features. It's also available "excellent open box" for less than $600???https://www.bestbuy.com/product/h...=excellent

Never mind, the link is intact with your other post. Ok, I see it. HP Omnibook, Intel Core Ultra 7, 16GB, 1TB, touch screen, 400nits, 2-in-1.

Well, if you don't mind the fact that this Omnibook is not upgradeable, and you're comfortable spending $600 on it, I'd probably do it. You've got extras you don't need (like the touchscreen), but you might enjoy it. Much nicer screen - you might thank yourself later for getting something easier on the eyes. Much longer battery life.

You might also like the fact that you can charge the Omnibook by USB-C (and not by an AC adapter with a barrel connector), which makes it more versatile (e.g., if you want to charge it on the go, it's easier because you can do it with a handheld battery bank/pack, or a DC adapter, or lots of AC adapter options).

If, on the other hand, you're on a strict budget, you'll probably want to go with the $379.99 option mentioned earlier. Otherwise, enjoy the $600 laptop, and take really good care of it (so you can get years of use out of it)!

As a bargain it is fine. Does it have features that you don't need, and maybe something that costs less will do?

Another thing is build, style and portability. You know best how you will use it.
