USB-C pros: Less input lag, can do pass-through charging, lighter weight because no battery. cons: Only certain phones can fit in the controller, the orientation and position of the phone is determined by the port position. The port can break/become loose.
Also, I feel like not many people know this, but the G8+ can play via USB-C with a cable connected to the port on the controller. Can't do charge pass-through/bypass because there's only one port though.
Love the controller though. I use it mostly for PS5 streaming through PXPlay with my Z Fold 6.
Community Reviews
The GameSir G8 Plus is a Bluetooth telescopic mobile controller that stands out for broad device support, tablet use, and flexible controls. It includes different joystick caps, magnetic faceplate support, charge bypass, and three connectivity modes, with strong results for emulation and PS5 streaming through PXPlay. Bluetooth adds compatibility and positioning freedom, while the controller can also work through a cable or an extra 2.4 gigahertz adapter for XInput mode. The main drawbacks are Bluetooth lag for streaming, fast battery drain, and no automatic power off after inactivity. It is a versatile pick if you want one controller for phones, tablets, and handheld-style setups.
Common Questions (5)
Bluetooth adds more input lag than USB-C, and it can be especially noticeable in streaming setups because it stacks controller lag on top of streaming lag. For close-range Steam Link use, the lag may be acceptable, but USB-C is the better choice when minimizing latency matters.
Yes, it can be used with tablets when paired with an extension, and it has been modded to fit an 11-inch tablet. It is also used with foldables like the Fold 7 and with phones such as the Samsung S9 tablet setup mentioned in the thread.
It includes different joystick caps, but not D-pad attachments. The package also includes a magnetic faceplate, so the included extras are mainly for stick customization rather than swapping D-pads.
The G8+ is Bluetooth-only for normal use and does not have charge pass-through or bypass like the USB-C G8. It can also be used over USB-C with a cable, but that still does not provide bypass because the controller has only one port.
It reportedly does not auto-power off after inactivity, and the battery can drain quickly. To shut it down, you need to hold the pair button for about 5 seconds; some users also note it powers off after a few minutes of inactivity and must be turned back on with the right-side round button.
