This has always been the normal price for these, have they gone up in price by that much? I have one in all my vehicles (white version), paid $9.99 each.

Good luck finding them for that price anymore. If you do post them. I am sure it's tariffs.

I had a small one like that. There wasn't enough for an oven fire. 1st Cop on scene had a larger one that put it out.

This one on Amazon has 2.2lbs of agent and weighs 3.2lbs.

Sometimes costco in store will drop the price on the first alert ones from $40 to $30.
That has 5lbs of agent but weighs 10lbs.

Mostly I wouldn't be overly concerned about fire extinguishers except that my mother-in-law just emptied one on her stove today. The Costco one you linked is arguably more robust compared to the Kiddie. Also rechargeable. Kiddie at Amazon uses sodium bicarbonate and is B,C rated. The First Alert uses Monoammonium phosphate and is A,B,C rated. The Monoammonium phosphate is more of a clean up issue but both have some similar and varied qualities for use. Think I'll stick the the Kiddie for home use, lighter for the mother in law. Pretty good price too. Thanks for the link and comparison.

Tariff is working so well the 5lbs fire extinguisher is as cheap as it has been in 5 years

A quick look at the price history of this product shows zero evidence that tariffs have impacted the price.

There's usually a $10 fire extinguisher sale on Black Friday.

You'd be much better off with at least a 2A, 10 B/C size extinguisher (or better yet, a 3A 40 B-C).

Main thing is don't just throw it into a cabinet somewhere where you can't easily grab it if needed. You might not be home, so make it as simple as possible to spot & use. The mounting bracket is there for a purpose, don't ignore it. A good idea is to place it towards the exit, so you can grab it without going past any fire, and still be able to bail out the door quickly if the fire grows rapidly.
