CR2032 batteries have a shelf-life of 5-10 years, usually closer to ten years. The Air Tag was introduced in 2021. Even if somehow they found a box of the original shipment of Air Tags, the chances of you getting one with a dead battery due to age is pretty much zero.

I heard October, could it be this month, or is it being pushed to next year?

I have both these and some generics, which were less than half the price but sync to Find My the same way. Not going to link to specific ones, so no one accuses me of being a shill.

Both have performed exactly the same for me. Can't justify the originals anymore, even with sale prices like this.

I have several generics as well, and they seem to be OK, but I've not seen a generic that had NFC like the Apple tags do. Admittedly, finding the item in the same room is not the device's most important function.

Esp if they're Amazon retailer who could have been sitting on the battery life of these for years.

If they do drop in price, it won't be significant.

Why would anyone order this when you can get the Apple deal for half the price?

I don't need three times the range. I DO need three times as cheap, though. That's why I went with the Apple deal...
