This 20 quart Sterilite gasket box is a handy dry storage bin, especially for 3D printing filament, with room for about four rolls and sometimes five. It also fits neatly in cube storage and can double as a cigar humidor with humidifier packs. The main drawback is the gasket, which is described as cheap foam that does not seal evenly, though simple clip or top down fixes help improve the fit. At $6.97, it reads as a practical everyday storage box with a few moisture control tweaks.

Common Questions (3)

  • It holds about 4 filament rolls easily and up to 5 rolls for some brands. The 20-quart size is also convenient for keeping filament dry when paired with desiccant or a hygrometer.

  • The gasket is a cheap foam strip and does not seal evenly all the way around, so it is not a perfect moisture barrier out of the box. Applying pressure around the rim or using end-clips can improve the seal for filament storage.

  • Yes, $6.97 appears to be the regular price this year. That makes it a reasonable buy for a gasket box, especially compared with much higher prices on larger Sterilite sizes.

This has been the going price all year. I bought the 20qt and 32qt at these prices in April and they've been consistently reposted at these prices since.

The 20 quart is a convenient size for storing and keeping dry 3d printing filament, holds 4 rolls easily, 5 of some brands.

I've had great luck with storing 3D filament in these with a rechargeable Dessicant and hygrometer to monitor humidity. I've seen someone post that a different brand one is avail over at Menards for a good price and they are advertised as IP67 waterproof so they are prob even better at keeping out moisture! I'm going to buy a few to try out for my filament.

What is the cheap cube storage you mentioned? I have about 6 of them for filament and I am wondering if there is more way for me to be organize. Thanks!

I agree! I use this to store 5 rolls of filament. I have about 6 of these boxes already and I am thinking about getting more.

This would also work well as a humidor to store cigars using humidifier packs.

I've been buying these for the last few months and they were $6.97 then. I think that's just their regular price. I use them to store filament. For the price, they're not bad, but the gasket is really cheap foam and doesn't really seal all around. That being said, people have noticed this problem before and have made 3d models to help clasp the top down better.

What filament would be good for the seal and is there an stl for this?

Agree with others, this has been the normal price at least the entirety of this year. I have ordered literally hundreds of them for breeding bugs. I typically order the 6 count version for $38.46 ($6.41 each)

I don't think you have to replace the seal, just make sure there's pressure all around the rim. Stock, you only get pressure on the opposite sides, leaving the middle lengths to lift up just enough that air can get in. I used this: https://www.printables.com/model/219765-sterilite-dry-box-end-clips and it seems to be working out.

Not a bad price. I've gotten the 80qt between $17 and $22 in the past (the $40+ price tag is dumb).

Not the exact same one, but If you have a Smiths grocery nearby, they have the 64qt on sale.
