The purchase can be made using multiple purchases. In the past, you could use this offer to purchase gift cards, but I'm not sure if it will work this time since the terms specifically exclude e-gift cards (but makes no mention of physical gift cards).

Enrollment is limited. Eligible Card Members must first add offer to Card and then use same Card for qualifying spend. Only US-issued American Express® Cards are eligible.
Limit of 1 statement credit per eligible Card Member account. If the Card Account is canceled or past due, it may not qualify to receive the statement credit(s).
Qualifying Purchases
Offer valid in-store and online at US website allenedmonds.com. Valid at participating locations in the US. Not valid on purchases shipped outside the US. Excludes e-gift card purchases.
