Seems like a good deal. Any downsides I'm overlooking?

The screen is low quality, 300 nits brightness and only 45% NTSC/60% sRGB color spectrum. There are only two video output ports, and the USB-C video output connects directly to the Intel iGPU, so you'll need to use the HDMI 2.1 port to connect a monitor for full performance. The GPU is limited to 80 watts. There is no advanced Optimus, but there is a MUX switch(you can reboot to get full gaming performance on the laptop screen, then reboot to switch back to iGPU mode for battery life).

Beyond those downsides, it's not bad. The cooling is good, the battery life is good (for a 13th gen Intel laptop). There are two RAM spots and an extra NVMe SSD slot, though it does only support single sided SSDs in the second slot.

If you're going to use it connected to a 1080p monitor for gaming and movies, then edit office documents and browse the web when on the go, it should be fine. It's not a bad deal for a budget gaming laptop.

However, for just $50 more you can get an Asus Tuf with an RTX 4060 or a Lenovo LOQ with an RTX 5050. If you can afford it, those are both better options.

For what it's worth, I LOVE my A16. I have the RX7700S variant (an approx. RTX 4060 equivalent) and got it for $680 in July 2024. I can run BG3, TW Warhammer, RDR2 on high/ultra settings. Pro tip: download "G Helper" a 3rd party replacement for Asus Armoury (the PC's cooling and performance software app). G Helper is lighter in operation, easier to use, and allows you to get rid of Asus bloatware. When using it in Silent mode, GPU and CPU maintain 60-deg C with no fans running. The MUX is awesome - it actively switches to the dGPU when starting a game. Also, my screen has AMD Freesync Premium. Double check whether the screen in this one has Gsync (for Nvidia dGPU's). Lastly, FHD+ (1920x1200p) is preferred for gaming laptops. You'll have more vertical real estate above typical FHD (1920x1080p) and QHD/4k is unnecessary for 16" laptops (too small to benefit).

Where would someone find those 2 options for $50 more?

There's this great website where people post all the best deals, and you can search for products you're interested in. It's called Slickdeals.

Lol I don't think I ever heard of it? Thanks for the links and sarcasm warranted.

That's not actually a big downside. The 4050 mobile achieves 95% of its max performance at 80 watts. You can actually run it at 60 watts and get 80% of its theoretical max performance which is great from a fan noise / heat perspective. Personally I wouldn't bother running it at more than 80 watts.
