ProtonMail is having their usual yearly Black Friday sale on their plans, below is a quick summary. Bundle packages are 50% off and individual services are 70% off (Mail, VPN, Drive, Pass).

Unfortunately, from what it seems, it may only work for new users and not existing accounts-- the exception being if you upgrade to Proton Duo (two account package), which they seem to be pushing.

Incidentally, this is what you would be paying for a normal Proton Unlimited package or renewal (that is $9.99 a month or US$119.88/year)... so if you're on the Unlimited plan and think you have a use for the extra stuff that comes with that package, then that would be a good deal for you, as the storage goes from 500GB to 2TB and from 15 emails to 30 emails (and of course, from 1 account to 2 accounts).

The first two deals are on the page linked, the last two you can get to by logging into your Proton account and clicking on the BLACK FRIDAY link at the top right of the page.

If anyone figures out how to get this working with existing accounts, please let us know as I'm up for renewal within 30 days.

12-month 50% off Mail Plus $2.49 /month code: BF25PROMO
12-month 50% off Proton Unlimited $6.49 /month code: BF25BUNDLEPROMO
12-month 50% off Proton Duo 12 months US$9.99/month BF25BUNDLEPROMO
12-month 50% off Proton Family 12 months US$14.99/month BF25BUNDLEPROMO

I'm not interested if the deals aren't perpetual, or at least for 2+ years, but thanks for posting. Don't like playing these games every year from any company.

I'd be less bothered by having to put in a deal code once a year than them doing a one time deal then upping the cost nearly 40% when up for renewal. Last year I paid $77 dollars for the Proton Unlimited package using a Black Friday deal (I went from Plus to Unlimited, and actually paid $40 for that full year after credits applied)... now my renewal for that same package this year is $120, and I can't use the BF deals. So yeah, I guess that's kind of what you're getting at as well here huh?

They make it seem like a good deal for me to still pay the$120 for the renewal but I get to upgrade to Proton Duo-- except I'm only one person and I don't need two separate accounts... and I really don't need 30 emails... the current 15 is way more than I need or want, especially with being able to use + aliases and anonymous services. Personally, I have a custom domain or two tied to it and I just use a catch-all email and make up whatever emails I want to. It's not a good deal if you're paying more for crap you don't need, right?

Personally, I'm curious if you cancel the renewal on an existing plan... then re-add the plan and use the above BF25BUNDLEPROMO code, if it would work. I'm guessing no, since it obviously states you stay on the plan you've already paid for until expiration then it drops you to ProtonFree- so you'd probably still show as a "subscribed to" status.

Some have said in Reddit that they downgraded to a cheaper or free option then they were able to use the new deals this year.

I'm not sure I need and of the paid features they offer so free will continue to work fine for me personally. Waiting to see Tutas Black Friday deals yet too.

I tried this. It doesn't work. As you mentioned, it doesn't downgrade the subscription. Insteda it just stops the auto renewal. You paid plans continues till its end date. Which doesn't allow you to subscribe to the BF deal.

I had ~ 1 year left on my two year Mail Plus subscription. I was able to upgrade to Proton Unlimited and they credited my remaining Mail Plus amount towards the new Proton Unlimited subscription. I did this primarily to add Proton VPN.

I didn't do anything special, just clicked on the tab on the linked page.

Note: I tried to add Proton VPN to my account using the earlier VPN deal but it did not work. This deal worked. Thanks OP.

Not a bad idea but from my understanding reading the terms, it says they won't delete any data if your paid subscription expires— like if you had like 100gb on proton drive and your unlimited expired... it will drop you to free but keep your files— unless, and you'd have to verify this— you downgrade your plan. I'd have to re read the details as I was scanning them trying to see if there were any kind of loopholes etc. I'll look tomorrow. But that would be my only concern doing this...And the question of can you actually downgrade your plan if you've already pre paid for a year? Not sure, I saw cancel but not an option to downgrade. Then again I didn't look. Will follow up on this and see.

Keep in mind you need Autofowarding to work. At least that is what I have been dealing with. Yahoo requires YahooPlus, so you will have to pay for that if you have old yahoo emails.

Any opinions on ProtonVPN vs Windscribe? I love windscribe, however my long term windscribe sub is up in Dec.
