I bought one of these but haven't used it yet. If I don't have issues with 1st layer adhesion then do I really need a cryo build plate?

I have this running now in both my Centauri Carbon and P1S. More than for Adhesion purposes, I use it because it generally doesn't need heat with PLA and very little with PETG. I spend a lot of time in the same room as my printers and it does make a difference for room temps. I'm not sure energy-wise what it saves, but the heat is my primary reason I use these.

It's a bit textured, I'd say similar to the stock Bambu plate. If you want smoother, you'd want the "glacier" model. Adhesion isn't as good as the frostbite and you will need more heat, but it is smoother. I have both and I'd say 90+% I'm using the frostbite.

Probably the best upgrade for any 3D printer that supports a cool plate. I'd recommend using the Frostbite build plate over Glacier. While both are good, Frostbite does have better adhesion albeit a slightly courser texture. I've also had issues with a Glacier build plate leaving blue residue on some prints and the plate surface deteriorating somewhat after many hours of use. Frostbite plate still works good as new after about 800 hours and I never even had to clean it.

How does this compare to Bambu supertack? I just got one and been very impressed with it. Nice smooth texture and no warping with pla

Before I tried the biqu cryogrip panda (grey) that was on Amazon a few weeks ago but that still works for large items

Since the supertack is somehow always on sale at bambu I bought a few more.
Is the frost grip much better than cryogrip panda grey?

(Those names are really bad for comparisons...)

I bought these when they were doing the buy two for the price of one, they only sent me one and we're unwilling to give me a refund or send me the other 😆

these are more flexible in terms of what materials you can use, so they're a bit worse for PLA but better for everything else than the stock textured plates. Still phenomenal for PLA though.

The one in the OP would be to big for the Adx5. I'm not by pc now, but you can search adx5 biqu and they should have one for your printer. Make sure it's the correct size, I believe 220x220. Alternatively, I believe the Ender 3 uses the same size plate and it's more common, so maybe search "Ender 3 Biqu" or "Ender 3 build plate".

I found 220x220 size that would work for AD5x. Thank you! Is this build plate better and worth upgrading from the OEM PEI Textured build plate? What are the pros and cons with this build plate? Is there additional parts do we need if we buy this particular build plate?

The two main reason people by this build plate are A) It has tremendous adhesion and you almost never have to worry about your 1st layer or adhesion issues at all. Brims are a thing of the past with this and B) for PLA you almost never need to use any heat and get set the bed temperature to ambient. I also like the blue color as it contrasts with most colors you will be printing with.


The only cons I can thing of is it's a textured plate and depending on the print, you may want a smoother plate. It's not any less smooth than the OEM Textured plate though.

Hi Gabe,

I bought two Frostbite build plates for my AD5x for $31.58 shipped. I plan to alternate between both plates so I can run back to back prints without waiting for the first one to cool down. Hopefully, this will save time and also help reduce power consumption.

Thank you for your helpful guidance and tips and for sharing this deal. Now I need some deal on orange rechargeable desiccants.
