You are a lot better off getting the Surface Pro 13" tablet because it comes with the Snapdragon X 10-core or 12-core models. This one is 8-core, but the catch is that the GPU is also less than half the speed of the 10/12 core's GPUs. If you can find a 10-core one cheap in the 13", that one has the best blend of performance and battery life. The 13" also has an SSD instead of UFS.
On the other hand, the 13" surface pro tablet is half a pound heavier than this one, so there is that downside.
IMO microsoft kinda dropped the ball on this one. The specs would be okay if it had 5G or something and they sold it as a go-everywhere thing, but none of the 12" models have 5G either, have to get 13" for that too.

Even though this is mostly worse than the 13 inch, I was thinking about getting it just for the purple color, because I'm shallow like that. But if you watch some real reviews that don't have "streamer lighting", you'll see that the color is only a very very light tint, it almost looks Gray. Microsoft's pictures of this tablet are extremely misleading.

Yeah, it's crazy. It all started when they decided to call the Surface Pro 5, the Surface Pro (2017).

Yeah I think its on purpose.
This is what I found via extensive research

TIER S
-Surface Laptop 7 15" - Snapdragon X 12-core that actually has the thermal headroom to run at full speed and a larger battery so that it doesn't kill battery life

TIER A
-Surface Laptop 7 13.8" Snapdragon X 10-core - Similar speed as the Surface Laptop 7 13.8" 12-core due to thermal throttling, but +20% battery life even for light tasks due to having 2 less cores to power

TIER A-
-Surface Laptop 7 13.8" Snapdragon X 12-core - Similar speed as the Surface Laptop 7 13.8" 10-core due to thermal throttling, but -20% battery life even for light tasks due to having 2 more cores to power

TIER B+
-Surface Pro 11 13" Snapdragon X 10-core - Slower than the Surface Laptop 7 13.8" due to thermal throttling. Similar speed as the Surface Pro 11 13" 12-core due to thermal throttling, but +20% battery life even for light tasks due to having 2 less cores to power

TIER D
-Surface Laptop 7 13" Snapdragon X 8-core - Much slower than the laptop 7 13.8"+ and Surface Pro 11 13" due to having less CPU cores and a GPU that is less than half the power of the GPU in the 10 & 12 core models.
-Surface Pro 11 12" Snapdragon X 8-core - Much slower than the laptop 7 13.8"+ and Surface Pro 11 13" due to having less CPU cores and a GPU that is less than half the power of the GPU in the 10 & 12 core models.

IMO what MS should have done:
  • The Snapdragon X Elite 12-core should only have been offered in the Surface Laptop 7 15". The rest of the lineup doesn't have the thermal headroom or battery size to support it. The Surface Laptop 7 13.8" and Surface Pro 11 13" thus should have only been offered with the Snapdragon X 10-core, and if they want an "upsell" option make it 5G instead of the 12-core CPU. But I assume they had to do the 12-core option so Qualcomm could sell their CPU inventory.
  • The Surface Laptop 7 13" and Surface Pro 11 12" are completely different power classes than the rest of the lineup, and should have been called "lite" or something like that so people better understood this. IMO 5G also should have been standard in these to capitalize on the portability the less demanding 8-core CPU offers.
