I don't think Costco is going much cheaper for BF. This model was supposed to be $150 off through today and then all the sales happened and it looks like they matched it to $200 off to compete.

Retail right now is so weak Especially high ticket. The prices ONLY go lower or better. They dont go higher. They could throw in Apple Care? Not sure. But the lowest price on this has not been seen yet. I said the same things weeks ago when 799 was a flaming front page deal. Blakc friday-cyer monday all the retailers fighting for the sales.

damn, just bought 2 of these, open box for $725 (at least that was less) and a new one at costco for $799 less than 2 weeks ago, wondering if costco would price match (I doubt it), or if I have to return and rebuy on amazon (although costco gave the 2 years extra warranty which is nice but IMO not worth $50)
Costco will adjust the price if you go in. That covers 30 days form when you buy it.

additional %5 back on the amazon visa vs what you get back on the costco one
Not if you have the Executive Costco membership and the membership card. 2% + 6% (special offer 6 months Venmo on top category) Total 8% Costco 2 y warranty as well.

I bought mine about 5 weeks ago and they gave me a one time price adjustment outside of the 30 days. I would 100% pay a few extra dollars to buy from Costco vs other retailers because of their cheaper Applecare+, generous return policy and great customer service.
Just becare especially during this period. Last few years things have changed with retailers, holiday season pricing is not matched within their store or even with competitors. I don't know about Costco as I stopped price adjustments long back, rather return and rebuy. This is what the Costco reps told me to do, similar to Amazon.

Yep, died this afternoon. Hopefully, we'll see it return at the same (or even better) price come Black Friday/Cyber Monday.
EDIT 11/13/25: Looks like it's back on! Not sure for how long, but they have it for $749 again.

If you want to roll the dice on a $1000 laptop that's cool but if someone has never used a MacBook before and encounters issue and doesnt have AppleCare+ they are going to be in for a rude awakening

Also most people dont know what's wrong with their laptop when it dies or something isn't working correctly and to diagnose it costs $100, why not spend $229 for 3 years of peace of mind?

If I haven't had multiple repairs and multiple replacements on $3k+ MacBook Pros over the years I might consider not getting it especially if it's a low priced model. But AppleCare+ is so cheap for the Air it's almost counterintuitive not to get it.

Finally, if you decide the laptop is not for you or want to upgrade selling a MacBook with existing AppleCare+ already on the device raises the resale price and leads to a quicker sale.

I see where you are coming from but the average Joe doesnt have that info
Now, the interesting part is that 3 years of AppleCare+ are expensive enough to offset the future heavily depreciated value of this laptop. The example you gave is a manufacturer's defect out of the standard warranty - it has no deductible and it may make a sense depending on the timing of occurrence. If it happens immediately after the standard warranty expiration, the $229 Apple care makes sense - you prepaid roughly 30% of the device cost as a warranty premium, but at that moment the depreciated value might be around 50%, i.e you gain around $100-150. If it happens by year three though, your gain is probably around zero. Hence, if you buy the laptop from Costco you get two years of warranty which essentially negates the need of AppleCare. The only real gain would be the accidental breaking of the screen - in that case deductible is only $99. In general, for the base model MB Air when on sale, the risk doesn't justify buying the relatively expensive AppleCare. It is just too much for the premium + accidental deductible $299.
Note - this applies to the very basic MBAir at cost around $700. For all other much more expensive Apple products the AppleCare makes a lot of sense. However, Apple doesn't put separate insurance tier for this particular model Frown
