There is a trade-off purchasing from Micro Center:

1. If you purchase directly from Ubiquiti you got a two year warranty instead of a one year warranty.

2. If you purchased from them directly, you also pay shipping, so the savings at Micro Center is actually higher.

Either way, the Ubiquiti equipment is great, especially if you use other items in there ecosystem which has been rapidly expanding.

Knowledge and control of your network with very few limitations. It can show you which client and which apps are using bandwidth, note signal strengths on all your access points and note which ones could benefit from repositioning. You can choose channels and channel widths by band (2.4/5/6low/6high), exclude channels (so that any auto selection doesn't get fouled by neighbors, if you have them), keep track of your upstream internet uptime/downtime/interruptions.

If you are lucky enough to plug in your single router and it works, you don't need it. If you have a bigger house with multiple access points or ever need to troubleshoot (IMHO) its a ton easier than trying to figure out what's going wrong using a consumer router or cobbling together freeware network tracing utilities and sifting through MB of text data looking for your issue.

Just from personal experience, I bought the DR7 a few months back and I'll never go back. Prior to this I had experience with Synology, TP Link and Netgear.

This blows them out of the water. Consistency, speeds, UI, everything is incredibly premium and very easy to use.

For those who stream and host their own cloud gaming, you'll never go back from WifiMan. Tailscale is wonderful, but the built in support for Unifi's VPN is next level.

I'm not going to tell you to get this at a great price, but I will recommend it with all of my heart. You'll love it.

Picking this up tomorrow hopefully, just placed an in-store pickup.

Been waiting to swtich my Asus network with a more robust one and get WiFi 7 as an upgrade from 6.

Had been using a newer Asus router and older one in Mesh mode but the mesh node wouldn't be as great as I wanted (really low speeds and unstable sometimes).

Hoping I can expand now on a Ubiquity ecosystem slowly and pick up an AP later on some sale as well as replace my terrible EUFY camera system Smilie

Only wish it had one more 10gb port. If I was to upgrade to a 5gb internet it would render the router useless to get 5gb for wired purposes. Anyone has any input or alternatives?
The cheapest way to get going in the Ubiquiti world for something like that would be the Cloud Gateway Fiber plus WiFi APs. Typically power users run something like the Dream Machine plus a switch, the Dream Machines are not designed for that type of environment.

Can I still use my older Amplifi aliens as mesh points with Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Router 7?

Just got the TP Link BE63 on a price mistake for around this price. I've always heard amazing things about Ubiquiti though and I'm considering returning my unopened TP Link for this. What are the big things you gain by going with Ubiquiti?
Good products the CEO is a total toxic jerk.

Been keeping an eye on the Ubiquiti stuff. Cisco killed the Meraki Go line and have been looking for a suitable replacement.

Kind of embarrassed to say that I've had unifi for a couple of years now, as well as the WifiMan app. Not once have I ever used Teleport. Thank you for pointing out this seamless feature!

I have a U7 Pro and a U6 Pro. U6 Pro will be relegated to the garage and i'll replace it with another U7 Pro.

AP's *should* be hard wired for best performance, but they can technically mesh too. I would only recommend meshing for far reach AP's that can't get wired though (like a shed, or outbuilding or something).
Question about getting wifi to an outbuilding (a metal barn) which is about 200 feet or some from the house. This is my mom's house and they have Xfinity 1 gig internet and are currently using Xfinity's XB8 modem and router combo device. What is the best way to to extend their wifi signal out to the barn? Would buying something like the UniFi DR7 and using an AP do the trick? Although I think the AP would still need to wireless (no ethernet drop to the barn) so not sure how well something like that would work. Any ideas?

i currently have a gl-inet flint-2 router. i like it because it two 2.5g ports -- 1 for WAN, 1 for LAN. my house CAT6e wired with multiple 2.5g unmanaged switches. i don't have 10g anything.
household has iphone 17 & 14s & rokus. no cameras.
would this unifi router improve my current cable/wifi setup?
any help appreciated.

You'd want to put the xfinity gateway in bridge mode and use the DR7 as your main firewall/router. I believe it can mesh, but you'd need to look into it. And as long as you can power another AP using an POE injector, it should mesh just fine. Obviously distance and obstructions are site dependent.

I currently have Tplink. I feel like I'm not a networking novice but there's a lot I don't understand. My tplink is actually a mesh of two routers right now. I'd like to replace them but this doesn't look like it supports mesh. Would you just do another access point on a different channel? I had that before and I rather not have to go back.

I looked it up and the DR7 can mesh to other AP's. If you wanted to, you could have the DR7 as an AP and then have another AP be meshed in, though a hardwired connection is more reliable.

I just switched to Ubiquiti with a cloud gateway fiber and a u7 Pro XG. Amazing experience so far. I was so impressed I went and got a Dream Router 7 for my parents so I could easily remote manage their network for them.

Are you saying the 2.4ghz on the UDR7 is worse than the original Dream Machine? I'm still on the OG and think the 2.4ghz is already lacking but I was hoping to upgrade to this.
Yeah, It's so bad, 5ghz performs better at any significant distance. I have a Sonos Play:5 Gen 1 which is only 2.4ghz. It became unusable, I had to dig up my Sonos Bridge from storage just to use it. Google it.

Only a 10G WAN port? No LANs at 10G? How am I supposed to show off my e-peniz with my 10G fiber connection?
You can reassign port roles in the UDR-7's GUI, which means the 10G WAN port can be converted to a LAN port with just a simple configuration change. So if all you need is an extra 10G LAN port inside your network, the UDR-7 handles that easily. However, if you want true 10G on both WAN and LAN at the same time, you'll need higher-end hardware. That usually means either building an OPNsense DIY firewall with at least two 10G SFP+ ports, or stepping up to something like a UDM-SE. You'll also need additional switching capacity, such as a USW-XG-PRO 8 PoE or similar, and Wi-Fi 7 access points like the E7 or U7 Pro XG to keep the whole network balanced.Realistically, most people don't even have access to WAN speeds above 5 Gbps from their ISPs. That makes the UDR-7 an ideal replacement for overpriced consumer WiFi7 routers like high-end Asus models. It offers better value, better management, and more flexibility without overpaying for features you'll never be able to use.
