When they recently announced no longer needing location services to be on, they did add a requirement that you use some data each month.

I bring this up because some of us would be on this plan only for a backup phone not normally used (like me).

So here is my first month of experiencing this new requirement.
The first couple of months on the plan I've had the phone not using it at all with location services on.
Once I started with this new twist I have no idea how but with virtually no use my data usage in the app states I've used 2.3GB out of 3. But I cannot get data to work now. I contacted them and they claim I ran out of data. But the meter has said 2.3GB usage for 2 weeks. It never updated higher and I do not use the phone. Plus I keep wifi on except for the first day, in order to use some data for only a few minutes.

So something is not jiving. They claim the stats may not be up to date, but they def should have been reflected properly by now (I would expect). Since I have no prior data usage, maybe they just have a bad tracking system...

Meanwhile they sent me 2 emails warning me no data was used and I needed to use data or I would lose the plan. When I inquired about these warnings each time, they claimed they were just sent in error the first time and they not only claimed the same thing the second time, but they also said they sent the same warning to everyone on the zero plan in error.
I find that very hard to believe.

So time will tell whether my data works properly or at all in my next cycle (when I should be replenished to 3GB available again). Or if my account gets canceled due to not using data, even though the CSR said I used all of my 3GB.

With the way things went this month, I feel like anything could happen, including losing my account and having to start all over with a new number.

If anyone has had weird stuff happening like this (under the new data usage requirement) please chime in.

My wife signed up for a Zero account a few days ago and had to upload her selfie and image of DL only to be notified by Helium that the company wasn't currently providing SIM cards for Zero accounts. Checking the Status Page for Helium confirms that "Temporary Unavailability" started Oct. 23. Helium is still providing eSIMs for all subscribers.

From heliummobile.statuspage.io

Update - We are continuing to work on a fix for this issue.
Oct 23, 2025 - 15:29 PDT
Identified - Physical SIM cards are temporarily unavailable to order for Zero Plan activations. eSIMs are still available for all subscribers. Paid plan orders are not affected.

We are working to restock availability as soon as possible.
Oct 23, 2025 - 12:49 PDT

Tuesday Nov. 11 UPDATE: At about 6:00pm ET Helium sent me an email stating, "Incident Resolved...Physical SIM cards are now available again. Thank you for your patience." My wife ordered a SIM and received confirmation number/email.

i've had it for a few months as an eSIM 2nd line for extra data, works great whenever i have tmobile service.

don't know how it works now, but the ID verify system rejected me and CS had to add me in manually.

I just sighed up. No ID verification for eSIM. For pSIM asked for a selfie and dr lic. I chose eSIM. Disabled their app but didn't uninstall. The only problem with using eSIM with my S24 there's no option to switch SIMs in dialer. I'd have to go to SIM manager and disable the primary SIM if i want to use the secondary eSIM. Best to have another phone for this.

No such luck here. Stuck on the ID verification screen and no option to choose an eSIM/pSIM before that.

Worked perfectly on an old iPhone 1w I had sitting around. Will be a Greta emergency phone for my kids. Their plans look really reasonable as well, thinking about switching some lines over to them!

Would it be possible to transfer eSIM to a tmobile pSIM. I want to use it in another phone. I have an unexpired BYD SIM from tmobile.

CS says not possible. Need a helium sim. Currently not available for Zero plan. I guess no option to buy locally or on Amazon or CS would've mentioned it.

I tried both the iPhone app and Android app, they all had the ID verification as the FIRST step, without asking eSIM or pSIM. How could you pick eSIM to skip the ID verification?

When i picked eSIM only asked for name, DOB, address. No selfie or ID pic needed for me. When i chose pSIM option, then i had to do selfie and pic of ID. Now that i want this service on a separate phone, will probably need to get verified by sending a selfie and pic of ID because i want to switch to pSIM.

I was asked for my name, DOB and address as the first step during signup, no matter I tried it on my iPhone or my Android phone. How did you find the option to pick eSIM or pSIM, *before* you were asked for your name and DOB? That's something I missed... Thanks!

Yes personal info was the first step and then sims. Since my info went through and i was approved, no other verification was needed for eSIM. I went back and selected pSIM. Then app asked for selfie and ID pic. I went back to eSIM. I'll try again when i buy another eSIM capable phone. Hopefully by then pSIM will be available. As of this morning pSIM still isn't available for Zero plan.

That's weird. During the first step, I was asked for name, DOB and address, then the next step I was asked to scan my government ID... there is NO option for me to choose from eSIM or pSIM before the first step(for ID verification)... Thanks!

Ditto here. I keyed my details in and got the gov. ID screen. Not quite sure I'm comfortable exposing my DL/Passport and other biometrics for data-mining purposes.

I didn't have to scan. After provided my info hit next and got approved instantly. Only when i tried pSIM option app asked for selfie and pic of ID. I went back to eSIM. Instant activation. Nothing else.
