You can disable soft start on many models. Below copy pasted from a reddit thread:
Disabling the soft no-load rotation


Make sure that the tool is turned off.
Set the speed adjusting dial to "1".
Press the lock/unlock button to turn on the tool.
Set the speed adjusting dial to "5" by turning it,

and then set it to "1" by turn it back.
The lamp blinks twice to indicate that the soft no-load rotation function is disabled. To enable this function again, perform the same procedure again.

I have XVJ02Z (this one is XVJ03Z) - mine is the only Makita tool that I hate purely for one feature - it will start slow unless it feels resistance that it got into material and then it will go full speed. This results in jerking material in the beginning and often breaking it and having an ugly cut in the beginning. I need to have a piece of sacrificial wood nearby that I will use to "start" a jigsaw and then move into material I want to cut. Hope they fixed it in this version
