Last month, I went thru 3 machines ...the Ninja thru Bestbuy, Philips 3200 full auto on sale at Costco.com and then then the Delongi Magnifica Evo also from Costco.
The ninja made really good coffee but the whole process for one cup of coffee is too tedious. It's a chore inc the cleanup afterwards. Both me/wife work from home and go thru multiple cups of coffee in the mornings so it was just too much work to get a cup of coffee. I returned it to BB.
Next up was the Philips 3200 on sale at Costco.com. I used Lavazza med grind beans (best beans for autos) and used fine grind setting. The thing with automatics is u have to let it "settle down" which usually takes 10-15 cups of coffee grinds so just use cheap coffee and make coffee/espresso and discard it ....do this till u get moist coffee pucks in the waste bin. The Philips was excellent for milk based drinks but the coffee wasn't too hot and kinda weak if u prefer black . My wife was content with it since she drinks mostly froth'ed cofffe drinks. I felt the machine was still lackig , especially black coffee.
I then ordered the Delongi Evo. In terms of over all build quality, Ninja was premium and then Delongi has mix of plastic, stainless steel touches and I felt Philips had little bit too much plastic.
I ran similar process on the Delongi Evo ....this model from Costco is entry level so no GUI screen. To program the machine, it's slightly convoluted (damn those Italians!) but u can program the water temp (unlike the Philips) and set the water hardness. Note this model doesnt come with the water filter but its like $20 at amazon. Using the filter (along with filtered water) means the machine will go longer without the need to descale.
Once the Delongi was "tuned", the coffee is much much stronger than the Philips. The coffee pucks are noticeable bigger (see attached picture). The milk frother is easy to use on the Delongi so its still easy to make drinks like latte/espresso and iced coffee. The water bin and waste bucket is also more spacey on the Delongi VS Philips.
I ended up returning the Philips and kept the Delongi. Been using it for 3 weeks now and we love the cofffee it produces. Highly recommend it. And very easy to clean.
