Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank kenstogie

these are great starter guitars for the money. You probably have to dress the frets maybe, adjust the neck (hopefully not )and change the strings but frankly you'd have to do thatt on pretty much any guitar these days unless you're talking to higher end stuff of course.

i had one of their idliylwild ? acoustics, loved it but since it was good and so inexpensive i gave it to a future guitarist. even offered up a lesson or 3.

i think monoprices return policy is a pain if i recall correctly., ...for cheaperish guitars like this Amazon is great, buy it is good? no...return it.

I purchased a Cali from Monoprice within the past 60 days. The guitar arrived with numerous flaws. The string trees on the headstock were severely bent. Where a slot is cut into the neck to glue in the nut, on the outer edge of that slot, a chunk of wood was missing about half the size of a tic tac, and I felt it might impact the intended structural integrity of the nut. The paint job on the guitar body, had an unbelievable amount of flaws. It looked like a 2-year-old had tried to paint a guitar, and let massive amounts of paint pool in certain areas, then let it dry, and then tried to paint over that with a thin coat to hide it. Another issue on the guitar body, there were tiny, yet noticeable, weird indented circles in the top coat. I might be wrong, but maybe those were air bubbles that popped and dried.

My return process with Monoprice was ridiculous. You had to report the problem, thus one contact. Then they replied back and wanted a written detailed description. So you send that. Then they reply back and want you to send pics of the issues, so I took pics and sent them. Then they send you an email telling you the return is being submitted for an approval, and I waited about 3 to 5 days. Then I got an email saying the return was approved and to wait a few days for a return label and prepaid FedEx shipping label. Then eventually I got that email, and was kind of shocked at what they did, wondering if it was accidental or intentional. The return label they sent was fine, but the FedEx label was blank with no bar code or anything to charge the shipping back to Monoprice. Then it was a couple of emails after that before they understood they didn't send a FedEx label with their account number and barcode to charge the shipping charges back to them. Eventually I got the correct FedEx label to return it, without me paying for the return shipping. All of that took about 2-weeks. During all that, I kept wondering if the company intentionally makes the return process so lengthy, with all the back and forth emails, hoping that eventually you're worn down and just give up and keep their product. If you can buy a Monoprice product from Amazon, I suggest doing it that way.

Yeah, I've heard mostly bad things about monoprice returns. Thought I've see it before where you have to return items on your dime (that's probably ymmv most likely). I've gotten a couple of tube amps from them but always have been leery of their guitars because I've heard it's hit or miss with them on musical forums. Some say these are good starter guitars (mostly because they're so cheap), but not sure if I can get behind that since they probably need extensive setups. I guess that's not bad if you can do the work yourself, but most aren't going to know how. This is so cheap that I may grab one of these for myself but I know I'm going to end up working on it, tinkering with it more than anything LOL.

But the same is true for a lot of Squiers and guitars under $300. These are a great deal at only $80, but I agree that it's only really a deal if you know how to fix it up yourself.
