My guess is that the best by date of Jan 27 likely corresponds to a 2024 harvest and pressing in Jan 2025.

Unlike wet cat food in a hermetically sealed metal can, dry cat food is more likely to break down within a couple of years. If the expiration date is 5-15-2024 (as was the case with the food sent me), it could have been manufactured a year or two before, so it may already be several years old.
I was quite surprised when my cat refused to eat it as he never has refused other foods. One fact is that no other cats would touch it as well. So, it will now be compost for the garden.
As for extra virgin olive oil, I think experts would recommend avoiding olive oil (even in sealed bottles) that is a year past its "best by" date. And you would be justified in asking for a refund if you did receive such outdated oil. Likewise, I assume, if you bought and were sent canned cat food that was a year past its expiration/best by date, even if it's "safe" for your cat to eat.
