I bought this last month. Works great if you upgrade the RAM. 16GB minimum for a total of 24GB

Yeah pretty good. But you'll need to upgrade the RAM if you actually plan to game on it

529, but yeah, this is a very portable machine with min specs (slowest 3050 variant, min battery). The screen and keyboard are not great, and they put the power button in the worst location (right next to del in the middle, smh). On the other hand cooling seems solid. If only it had USB charging (as it does not even pull the 120W the charger is rated for at max load, more like 80-90W), that would be great, alas. It is OK for the price, not a great deal by any stretch. If not for the compatibility with the 2x32GB ram I already had (also 2x full size nvme), I would have returned it and waited for something better, like the LOQ with a 5050 in the 500-600 range.

I bought this same open box excellent two weeks ago on sale for $384 and so far I really like it. It comes with 1 x 8GB 3200MHz RAM and one empty full size m.2 slot so I bought a 32GB RAM kit and added an additional 1TB. It runs everything I need which is mostly web browsing, music, e-mail, MS Office, and light gaming (it can hit 120 FPS playing Dead by Daylight on 1080p Low settings).

One small issue I had with it is the Ethernet port lock makes it almost impossible to disconnect the cable without using a small flat head screwdriver so I strongly recommend only using cables without boots.

Any other questions feel free to ask!

I think you're better off just spending the extra $80 for brand new.

RTX 3050 is too slow for gaming now, slower than a GTX 1660Ti from 2019. Avoid at $400. You can get new $629 Walmart Acer Nitro V16 with RTX 5050 and new $650 Staples Asus TUF A15 with RTX 4060 right now. Those are much better deals than this. Those have over twice the graphics power, those can game for years instead of already being obsolete.

I've been trying with the ideal of selling my Xbox and PS5 and just going PC.

But I want to be able to have something that can last me a while and/or able to make upgrades.

I would want to play games at like Cyberpunk, Outer Worlds 2, etc and good settings.

Would I be better looking elsewhere?

Look at my post above. New $629 Walmart Acer Nitro V16 with RTX 5050 or new $650 Staples Asus TUF A15 with RTX 4060.

Is it easy to upgrade the RAM + SSD by just unscrewing the back cover and install RAM + SSD? I have 2 32GB DDR4 and a 1 TB M.2 SSD and will buy the laptop if it's easy to install it? In Dell Latitudes, it's easy to install them and not sure how it's in this HP Victus?

It's easy to open but I don't recommend this one for $400. I have Victus 15-fb2082wm that I bought open box for $450 that has Ryzen 5 8645HS CPU that is much better than this i5-13420H and a RTX 4050 that is about 60% faster than this slow RTX 3050.
