A very small group of highly vocal people have been losing their minds over folks with food benefits being able to have something like this as an available food item. I disagree and feel that demonizing people in-need for buying a couple dollars worth of cake straddles the line between cruel and ridiculously petty.

Nobody said it's not. Now, what if they decide to block 'cake flour' next? It has less protein than normal flour which gives a cake its airy texture. Will we have that come under fire because it's for for cake too?
