I got one when I was in elementary school, and I pretended it was a Star Trek wrist communicator--and I cheated and granted it tricorder capabilities, and still yet. a wrist phaser (my invention at the time, I swear).

I just recycled a couple of those recently clearing out old stuff that I figure I'll never need again. Checking out the manual fora ll the brands supported, plenty don't really even exist anymore, and I wasn't able to get it to work on my 2018 Samsung, even though it had 3 separate codes for Samsung remotes.

Along those lines, I had one of those in high school in the early 90's and wore one up until I decided in the 00's I was carrying a "clock/watch" with my cell phone and got away from wearing a watch. Used to have fun though when I was somewhere that had at least 1 TV and I would cycle though the codes until I found the one that worked and messed with it. One time I tried the wall of TV's at a Walmart and ended up turning off like 4 of them at once. Good times.

I have this. It's a bit difficult to see the screen. It looks cool though.

Oh... Nostalgia... In the late 80s - 90s, I had a DBC-62 watch [youtube.com]. The watch outlived three plastic bands, which were incredibly hard to find in pre-internet era.

Data bank watches are useless now that your phone can store numbers... and tell the time more accurately.
Not useless. Doesn't only store phone numbers. Could still be useful to keep up with passwords. Speaking of phone numbers, also helpful to keep important numbers in case something happens to your phone.

I would like to time you in inputing five phone numbers and their names... that would take me like 45 minutes and guaranteed to make mistakes.

What are you going to do... whip out your tooth picks take off the phone and use it on the table? Maybe that will save you 15 minutes... still will take a shit long time.

Nope, hate to bum you out but both of them still worked. That is how I knew they wouldn't work on my TV. Still had the manual from one of them also, but that went in the recycle bin also.

This is the same model: https://www.ebay.com/itm/406363694658

$300 Ha ha

Interesting fact.... The first one I got when I was younger had an extra active code programmed in it. Not sure how but one of the code numbers not listed in the manual actually worked on the watch. Can't recall for sure what it operated(thinking it might've been the Zenith TV & VCR my parents had), but that watch ended up dying a quick death and would never power on again regardless of what battery was used. Could be why the code worked, must've had a defect in it, as the 2 I had after never worked for the unlisted code.

In a Brooklyn JHS in 1992, a huge Jamaican kid tried to tell my buddy "hey let me see that watch for a second", which led my geeky mild mannered friend to punch his nose so hard, that thieving bambaclat had two napkins in his nose for the rest of the day. I am going to send this watch to my friend as a gag gift, I am sure that was one of the proudest moments of his life :-p
