Tilt head forward keeping mouth partially open over sink.
Water floss away letting water just drain out of your mouth.
Move it along by feel and try not letting the stream shoot out of mouth.
If you feel that you might be at a point where water stream may point out of you mouth close down on it temporarily.
Can also use it in the shower with no worries at all.
You may still have occasional accidents but will get better it with time. The worst is when I turn it on by accidently before getting it to my mouth and for some reason that stream of water shooting around the room makes it much harder to hit the right button to turn it off.
Do keep at it they really do help wonderfully with dental care. Much easier than string flossing and I have got in the habit of not just water flossing after every meal but snack and sometime drinks as it only takes little work and time. Number one reason that people do not floss is that it is inconvenient.
Just a reminder that water flossing shouldn't be a substitute for regular flossing. My gums are messed up so I do both. But solely water flossing would probably be better than nothing.
