Check with your local shop. Mine matched this deal and I didn't have to pay $20 shipping.

Newb to cycling here. Is there any point to getting one of these "trainers" if I already have a good Echelon bike to ride indoors? Is it just to put the miles on the rig you're going to race with?

They're if you use Zwift -- in fact the trainer having a Zwift Cog premounted on it rather than a traditional cassette means it only really works with Zwift. If you don't intent to pay the subscription for Zwift there's little need for a trainer.

Um. yeah. using your rig could be a pros(cons would be putting unnecessary stress on your rig if high end)

This would be most attractive for zwift or other virtual training system. You can ride or race with your power output, and the resistance changes with the slope of the virtual world.

If not doing zwift stuff, then the benefit is indoor training with power meter.

Your indoor workout bike might have one(or you can install one). If you install your own power meter, you can also zwift. Gotta say though without automatic resistance change, it's kind of boring.

Ah this has the zwift cog 🤣 yeah looks like the click shift only works with Zwift. So if not on zwift, you have a smart trainer with a single 14 tooth cog. Is that a problem for a smart trainer, I'm not sure. I hated mechanically shifting under load on a smart trainer.. but adjusting resistance only through apps sounds annoying.

Should be nothing stopping you from installing your own cassette if you don't want to use the zwift cog.I use an older kickr exclusively for TrainerRoad and therefore never use the shifter anyway. More power to the folks that enjoy the social aspect of zwift but I'm cool w having a tv show or games or do work (trackball on a contraption and BT keyboard on aero bars) while I get some z2 in.

For what it's worth, I got the zwift cog for my kickr core 1 and it works great with a mod someone made (gtbikev) for GTA5 on PC where you cycle around routes in Los Santos, links to Strava too. For those cyclists who are so against paying subscriptions that we also play 12 year old video games.
