Pretty much no reason to not change them out every year. It's not that expensive. I changed out my underwear set and sock set this week for less than a hundred dollars (all cotton low cut socks and Gildan cotton briefs). It's not so much if the socks or briefs are ripped but that bacteria from your sweat lodges into the fabric and you can't get that out no matter how much you wash.

Try using detergent next time.

Cotton and wicking do not belong in the same description. Cotton does technically wick moisture, but it holds it in the fibers and stays wetter longer than wool or synthetic fibers that wick it away to aid in evaporating the moisture.

This thread has so many random comments 🤣🤣🤣

No reason to change any clothes unless they start looking bad or dont support anymore... for some reason the elastic on modern underwear has gotten really good, where in the past, over a year and the elastic started to suffer... and yes you should prob wash your underwear with bleach and detergent, wtf.

It's expensive if you want undergarments that aren't trash. This just seems like you just want an excuse to buy stuff. Do you also replace shirts that often since those also touch your skin? It's misleading to say the bacteria is impossible to get out. Lol

Polyester being lipophilic has a bad habit of holding onto oils and thus odors which may lead people into believing "bacteria is impossible to get out", in reality they just need to put some vinegar in their post-wash rinse.
