I dread to think what someone has done to a GPU to get it a "Fair" rating on visual inspection

Only excellent is shippable, and it's been about that price for a little bit. If someone has a fair one locally, it's probably worth a shot, especially since it's returnable.

Can the gaming community do the science nerds a solid and demand 64GB graphics cards already? We're stuck in a black hole because the gsme companies are afraid of AI liability.

There's really no need for 64 gb of vram for games. What would they even use it for?

I think it's less about liability, and more that it would cannibalize commercial demand if everyone started using their own models at home

LOL! Good point. If it let me do an online order for one, I would do it just to see. It's so easy to return these if there are any issues.

AI is already more important than gaming to both nvidia and AMD.

I mean think about it brother, what if whenever you talk to the NPC they could straight up talk back.

imagine Skyrim where you could literally ask a NPC directions to a place, and the AI like intelligence could roleplay the person and give you an answer that makes sense on instructions on how to get there. that's something that should be in video games in the future and it would require the card to be able to run AI.

actually let me soapbox on this entire thing, whenever we were trying to figure out how to simulate gradually accumulating damage at the start of 8 pixel video games, we needed to assign everything like Health these things called hit points. a percentage to attempt to indicate how the real world works. nowadays we have the technical ability to actually simulate how it works without applying it hit points, and yet people would rather just keep on applying hit points than do so. I can think of a thousand reasons to have insane vram for all of the simulations you can run and create an absolutely incredible game.

It could be as simple as missing the Power adapter dongle

Or even just that there's no box. The item itself may be fine. That's been the case with a few laptops I've purchased before.

Can't that be done remotely?
Offload it to the cloud. Why pay so much for that?

I doubt that's a concern. Itay become a concern in the future, but as of right now and near future it likely isn't a major concern, because the cost of 64GB of VRAM ain't cheap.

Returning without an optional bracket or extra mounting screws would do it. I have little experience with Best Buy open box shopping, but Amazon always rates items worse than described. I'm pretty OK with anything they sell, items are always in very good to like new condition. Curious how Best Buy rates things, in comparison.

Plenty of people are already using local models at home on their 64Gb+ unified memory Macs. Nvidia doesn't want to undercut sales on their $30k H100 cards.

I know of at least one hardware company trying to break in with cheap, high memory cards, though.

They can and do offload things like that, but as AI becomes more relied upon, it might make sense for us to start processing what we can locally. And I feel like this low accuracy use case is perfect to perform on card.
