Just an FYI 51mm is the total width of the watch (including the bezel). The screen itself is 1.4" (35mm).
Also not sure if $1099 is a true MSRP for this so the discount could be a faux discount if the MSRP is not realistically the $1099. This has Invictus written all over it.
I'm guessing you are not a Garmin watch person. That MSRP is real. Their latest watch, Fenix 8 pro is easily over $1k.

well, this is not invitia (assuming that's what you meant).
garmin is probably the best fitness watch there is, with longest battery life for a always on screen. i have the Epix (none pro, none sapphire) 47 mm for a few years, and i spent 600 dollar when it was on sale, still use it daily.
that said, if you aren't using the fitness function of the watch, and only expect a smart watch and are okay with charging it daily, then i wouldn't recommend garmin anything. they are just about the worst smart watch out there. the processor used on those watch are far worse than first generation android watch (which is dated before google wear OS ) from a decade ago.

I meant Invictus. There was a time when you'd almost always see posts about them being 50% off, 70% off, when in reality they were always at those prices.
However I just recently got the Samsung Watch Ultra 2025 (charging is not an issue as I have the watch charger on my home office desk and in the laundry room USB charging station). I do want smartwatch features such as spotify, whatsapp, text messaging and calls while out and about (using LTE with the watch).
Does Garmin offer all that? I was looking at the new Forerunner 970 (2025)

Nope. There's not a single Garmin watch does what do you do. You really only got it for the fitness feature, and week long batteries. I happen to have a few smart watches including Samsung watch, feature wise you are expecting a severe downgrade. the best analogy is think this is a Casio Pathfinder or citizen Skyhawk with some smartphone notification features build around a fitness tracker
Unfortunately/fortunately? Garmin has the private sector/govt market cornered too, as we're not allowed to have any PEDs that have a mic, and when you don't want to wear some fitbit, etc and want a watch-watch, Garmin is really you're only option.

Sounds like coming from someone who has never had a Garmin when you describe Garmin's as 'fitness features'.
But then I fully understand different strokes for different folks. Some wants ability to stream, some just want to be outdoors without having to worry about charging the watch every 12 hours.

expect i have this watch for the last few years, and it is on my wrist at this moment.
you, on the other hand, sounds like never truly used any other smart watch to know the difference between supporting app vs supporting the app well.

I'm not going to deny that the reason you get a Garmin is fitness first, but they certainly have a great deal of the smart features you would get from other smart watches. Even my Garmin Venu supports full notifications, basic replies to messages, Spotify (offline in fact), tap and pay, and apps in their marketplace expand that even more. Models including the Fenix 8 Pro (that might be the only one for now) offer LTE options, although I believe there's a variant of the venu that will do calls when tethered to the phone.
