i don't use these to clean my grill anymore also, i use only aluminum foil... too dangerous

Friend got one of these wires stuck in the back of their mouth. Luckily I had I pair of tweezers handy at the Airbnb. Otherwise it would have been a disaster.

I never had problems with wire brushes and even used the cheapest ones I could find after decades of grilling but according to the Internets I should have died many times over by now. Nevertheless I explored non wire brushes and they don't work nearly as good. So instead I do these steps to mitigate: Don't use super cheap brushes, a Cuisinart one like this is fine, and replace after a year of use. Also follow up the wire brushing with a scrubbing from a wire free brush.

As others have replied - these things flake off and can get lodged in your body. Instant trip to ER. As often as I grill and feed people, I can't risk that.
