This seems like a really good deal especially with 32gb Ram? Anything I am missing?

Gotcha, Thank you! Yeah I know screen isn't great but I usually just connect to monitor so didn't take that into consideration.

I learned about these things is that you don't want 8gbs of video ram as that's gonna limit you down the road. 12gb is really the minimum you want in 2025.

Great deal but I had two HP Omen 14 Transcend's in a row (purchased in October) where the screen became detached from the monitor. Ended up returning it yesterday and unsure if that applies to the 16 inch model as well.

Thank you for the pictures, In my small circle of the world HP laptops are notorious for monitor / hinge issues.

Looks like the bezel broke off, or is it the LCD as well? Serious QC issue either way for what should be a premium segment for HP.

The first time it was just the LCD on the inside of the bezel. It went out for replacement and Best Buy replaced the entire top half (lid, frame, screen, everything. The replacement is images 2 & 3 and it has the bezel coming off. I tried popping it back together but didn't seem to work as each time I opened it it would come off the same. The screen still worked perfectly, but it made me too nervous to keep it so I returned it.

Great summary, agree on all points.

Here's a comprehensive review from Jarrod'sTech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J80WhZTrIFY

Keep in mind, that review is for a model with a Ryzen AI 7 350, an 8-core model using Zen 5 cores, so this model's R9 8940HX is not apples-to-apples comparable due to being 16 core, Zen 4. Also, the battery in Jarrod's review is an 83Wh vs the smaller 70Wh in this laptop. Also, Jarrod's laptop has the improved 400 nits screen. This deal is for the lowest-tier 300 nits screen.

The CPU however, is quite a mobile powerhouse with 16 cores, 32 threads. I'm impressed it's inside an $800 laptop. It's a very new CPU, only launched in 4/23/25. Looks to be a 7940HX Zen 4 rebadge, but it's still a beast. It's not perfect for gaming, being more ideal for CPU-heavy tasks, but it should be capable in just about everything you throw its way.

The RTX 5060 Mobile's 8GB VRAM is disappointing, but so is the 8GB VRAM on the 5070 Mobile. We're definitely at a point where 8GB VRAM isn't enough maxed out games, even at 1080p. HP's implementation of the RTX 5060 seems to be very good with no TDP-limitations, letting it actually run faster than more expensive laptop's 5070's. Watch that review above for details.

The overall package it very reasonable for $800-$900.

FYI, there are 2x PCIe/ NVMe slots, and both RAM slots are user-replaceable.

Jarrod reviewed a different HP OMEN 16 (16z-ap000) than this one 16-ap0053dx. There is a not-so-complete review of the 8945HX model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzPPXnWCFkA.
And if you do some quick search, someone finds the 2nd ssd slot to be 2230 size.
https://www.reddit.com/r/HPOmen/c...d_upgrade/
This angry man's review also confirmed the 2nd ssd slot in 2230 size (8:26)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU_gASy2Rac
I did a lot of research on these HP Omen and Victus model, and decided to buy none of them (e.g., the Victus with 4050 has only 1 ssd slot, OMEN 2023 and 2024 models have black screen issues due to a bad fuse for the lid opener circuit).

Anyone can tell an outsider (not from the US, will have someone buy it for me) if there is a chance that Fair offering could be missing the power brick?
It says
  • May be missing parts, accessories, or packaging.
So not really sure where it draws the line, i wouldnt care for anything else
