It seems they are sold by Igance and not the OG "IGAN". From Amazon reviews, it seems the Igance version has soft metal cutting edges.

I got these on the last deal and you are correct about the branding. I haven't had any issues with "soft cutters" on either of the 2 pair I received. I only cut copper wire and ty wraps with them so maybe some of the reviewers are using them for harder material. Lots of bad reviews for most any tool can be attributed to "operator error.

little better than the inexpensive hakko ones?? (CHP-170)

PS. the 5 pack is only $18.99, or $3.80 each, with a 'typical price' of $24.99 ($5 each). So maybe $5.26 for one isn't all that much of a discount after all.

Because it's Amazon -- even if they provide the info, it could easily be wrong. They don't really care where the product is from, as long as they make the sale.

One of the photos posted on the Amazon site shows its made in China (unfortunately). But it is high quality and amazing for the 5 pk price. I bought them during another special and I'm impressed with the brand. The single quantity price isn't that great as other quality non Chinese ones come on sale for about the same price. Good for up to 12G copper; anything heavier/harder and you need something else.

well it's not like 15-20 years ago, mainland China is turning the corner and making good stuff, Taiwan has been making quality tools for quite some time. And if I recall correctly, a premier hand tool maker from Japan has their tools listed on amazon.

So yes, there are some quality tool brands up for sale on amazon.
