This is a fantastic device and I've been using it to run some small server work and as a family computer. Even threw some small AI work at it, and it did pretty well.

I liked the Mac Studio deal until I found out it only had a 512GB SSD. I'm not sure why Apple is so stingy with storage nowadays.
their storage option is where their biggest profit margin coming from. the cost of the additional 512GB probably just additional ?0+ dollars but their charge your a leg & arm.

two cheap alternative options :
* buy 3rd party SSD kit and manually upgrade (risk of loss warranty?)
* external nvme SSD is also very fast now days.

This or wait for Black Friday?
You can wait but the price probably won't be any less, maybe they'll throw in a useless flash drive, in-store only. If you want BB, do they match BF prices at all?

You might just buy a whole gaming laptop for $500 vs a little apple box with no keyboard mouse.
You're not buying a gaming laptop for $500 unless you're getting something two generations old that can play at 1080p medium. Just because they call it a "gaming laptop" doesn't mean you can do any serious gaming on it.

And this "little apple box" will run circles around that laptop at higher resolutions when gaming and still be usable in a couple years.

Best Buy will price match this and you can either pick up in store or have it shipped. Just do an online chat with them. Micro Center is an approved company for Best Buy price match. They'll just want you to send the link to the deal on Micro Center's site, and then they'll go from there. It took me about 10 minutes the last time this deal came up.
This may be a YMMV situation. Best Buy wouldn't price match for me. They said, "Thank you for waiting, I am afraid I cannot price match this item as the price entered is below the allowed discount for this item. It is already on discount at BestBuy that is why it will not allow me."

Yup. I paid $450 at MC when it was released and bought a Crucial EX400U 1TB for $100. It seems like it runs at TB4 speeds. Only strange glitch I've run into with the Mac Mini is that using certain TB4 ports on the back cause the Wi-Fi to stop working. It's apparently a known issue. Interference maybe?
it's an interference issue. try to run the cable differently, a different cable, or try a different port.

i ran into that issue with mine as well, it would drop my speed to ~ 90/100 when it should be about 250/250

the fix - to use a 90-degree USB-C adapter and run the USB-C cable for my hub a different way. now i am at 220/200. good enough. i have the thing tucked away under a monitor stand. i guess all it takes is some weird EMI thing to be going on under there and it destroys the signal.

With RAM prices being what they are, it's like getting the computer for free almost!

There's also an alternative option if you're interested in getting the M1 Max 32 GB Amazon renewed for $699. It occasionally comes back in stock. I'm always torn between the two options and haven't made a decision yet.

I agree, but I'm determined to make it work with external SSD's that I already have.

Note they do have the 1TB version for $1869 at Microcenter, but I don't see it at Best Buy.
