The quality of materials have gone way down. Polyester material doesn't have natural absorbency and polyester being a plastic promotes bacterial growth and odors.

Why do they make gym clothes out of polyester if that's the case? Seems like everyone would get ringworm or jock itch with the clothing, especially all those Lulu moms wearing skin tight yoga pants all day.

People like to complain and then justify it with "trust me bro" as their resource. 😂

Because polyester is cheap and made from petrochemicals, so the oil industry pushes it. Slap a brand name on it, and the apparel companies are making bank. Some say it wicks moisture/sweat away, but all it does for me is traps it up against my skin which often causes a chafing rash. I have some poly shorts and joggers that I wear over my undergarments, but I won't wear it directly on my sweat prone areas. I don't believe bacterial or fungal infections are much of a worry if the clothing is being changed and washed regularly, but once synthetic fibers absorb an odor, it is next to impossible to remove it.

What wicks moisture better - cotton or polyester? Shameless [Degree] self-promotion aside...it's...POLYESTER!

https://www.degreedeodorant.com/u...our%20skin.

Is polyester or cotton better for moisture-wicking?

Polyester is better for moisture-wicking than cotton. It's a synthetic fiber specifically engineered to repel water and dry quickly, making it ideal for managing sweat in activewear, underwear, and performance fabrics.

Cotton, while soft and breathable, absorbs moisture instead of pulling it away from your skin. Once it gets wet, it stays wet leading to clinginess, visible sweat stains, and discomfort.

THE VERDICT: BEST FABRICS TO WEAR WHEN SWEATING
When it comes to choosing the best fabrics for sweating, moisture-wicking materials like polyester and nylon are your best bet. They keep you dry, comfortable, and confident, no matter how much you sweat. Cotton is great for everyday wear but might not be ideal for high-sweat situations. Remember, pairing your outfit with a reliable deodorant like Degree can further enhance your sweat management game.

[Polyester police comments incoming...but whatever, science is science, regardless of feelings lol]

I got these on prime day for running. Looks like I paid $7.68. I'm not much of a sock snob, so grain of salt if you wear Smartwool, but I am pretty happy with them and would definitely buy them again at this price.
