I've learned that if plans dont mention unlimited data, then they are hard capped. This plan only mentions unlimited talk/text.

Infimobile has Black Friday offer $60 a year (yes full year!) for 5Gb a month with 2500 min talk and 2500 text monthly. Definitely the best deal in this class! I have used them for a year now no issues. Use coupon code XNY3RG8 for extra $5 off!

This is true, I was forced to do a SIM upgrade with Lyca Mobile as part of their switch to AT&T's network. After the upgrade, my older Samsung S10e can no longer register on AT&T because they no longer allow many older devices on their network, even if they technically support VoLTE.
Lyca Mobile support has been extremely frustrating. They keep insisting my phone is "compatible" and repeatedly blame the phone's software, even though the issue is clearly due to AT&T's restrictions. After many hours, I was finally able to get my account number and port-out PIN, but I still have many months left on my prepaid annual plan that I already paid for.
I'm now stuck with months of unusable service unless Lyca issues a refund, which has been difficult to get any clear help on.

That sim upgrade/change thing sucked. My newer iPhone stopped working after it too with eSIM before and after. A support rep had to put in a complaint ticket for it to get fixed or something.

Good summary but are all these MVNO services equivalent?

Ultra Mobile seems to have some awful reviews online from what I can see.

I helped a friend get a total wireless deal which included the iPhone 13 and 3 months for $165. The three months end in January. Can I buy this and activate it once January gets here?

Just curious if anyone in the Bay Area used this versus Mint, and how it compares?

Helium has a 3gb plan for free. Add unlimited talk and text for $5 a month, no promo required.
If you want another 3gb per month you can run their sprout plan as a secondary sim for another 3gb a month, total 6gb. I'm a big fan of set and forget. You save some money with these promos but you have to keep switching. Not a fan personally
Does Helium have wifi calling? Thx!

Yes. I actually haven't heard of a carrier that doesn't offer this feature
