*** IMPORTANT *** If you plan to buy this to side load apps that allow access to tv programs and movies from other sources be aware. Amazon is killing the side load option and will only allow apps they approve very soon. Meaning many of those other apps will be removed by Amazon from the firestick. If you only plan to use Amazon or Large Company Apps you will be fine.

Just found that out a few days ago after having to install updates on side-loaded apps that I've been using for years. Not cool, Amazon. Not cool at all. Time to consider an Nvidia Shield I suppose.

The ONN 4K Pro is equal to the Firestick pretty much in all ways and helluva lot cheaper than the shield. Might give it a go first.

How about screen mirroring from your Android phone to the stick?

You can freeze the firmware version so you don't have to deal with that. Pretty good chance that whatever you receive right now hasn't taken the October update yet.

The Nvidia Shield plus Projectivy for a launcher makes about the best experience you can get with a streaming box.
With all of the ads and Amazon's other anti-consumer changes, it's hard to see why anyone still uses these. I'd much rather have a $20 Onn box

There is no indication that apps already installed will be removed. It may just be that in the future you may not be able to sideload, but that has yet to be proven. All is well for now.

You are Incorrect! Amazon has already stated and begun this process in Germany and France and are actively removing and disabling apps that match certain criteria. This has been well documented and Amazon has admitted this is how it will be handled. You can read more here. https://www.tomsguide.com/computi...e-affected

The Onn 4k pro has geekbench numbers half that of the Fire TV cube 3. If all you're doing is Netflix, it's fine. Throw in some high bitrate H265 and it starts to choke I think. It's about the same cpu power as the chromecast.

The Fire TV Cube is pretty cheap for the amount of CPU power. Keep it from updating and it's a good smart TV box.

screen mirroring option on the stick is the worse among streaming devices. especially no stock options for ios users unless installing some unreliable third party apps.

Do not buy any of the Onn 4k stuff. I have got the regular and the plus version, both of them have issues with the remote. Everyday this happens. The directional pad on there is glitchy and you will press up or left or right or down 1 time, but it will register it 10 times and scroll you all the way down. Its very frustrating and so sad they cant fix this garbage.

If you are to buy any of the Onn get the plus edition because it is faster cpu than the pro at a lower price, but again you will have issues with the remote. And updating remote firmware makes no difference.
