There are advantages to doing this with ATT instead of Verizon.

1. After buying the phone in Walmart, you can pay off phone via ATT online chat. For Verizon you have to go to a store.
2. ATT activation fee can be voided instantly from the bill by clicking on "Don't recognize this fee" when the bill arrives even if it's more than 3 days from activation which will mostly happen if you ship it to your house.

3. ATT version can be instantly unlocked using eSIM swap. It's YMMV but for most people it works if you follow the instructions below and do the transfer of the eSIM properly from iPhone to another phone.
4. Even if the eSIM swap does not work I have seen some getting the phone unlocked by chatting with CS once the phone is paid off. That also is YMMV

Sim swap instructions

1. There are two timelines for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. But as mentioned earlier that fee can be voided instantly by clicking on "Don't recognize this fee" in the bill even after 3 days.

2. You can use SIM swap method method to unlock the device.

3. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the eSIM. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then transfer the eSIM to another unlocked phone. Make sure you are transferring the eSIM without making a new one so no ATT involvement. Reboot the other phone, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.

4. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ (in incognito mode) and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of iPhone nd submit an unlock request using a different email, phone number, name etc not associated with the ATT account.

5. Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.

6. ONLY CANCEL THE LINE AFTER YOU HAVE UNLOCKED THE PHONE. OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK IT ANYMORE.

Edit: Forgot to mention you will have to try the SIM swap roughly 24 hours after paying off the phone. The unlock portal syncs with the billing system every night or so.

Thank you for posting this deal! Is the following correct?

1. Order the iPhone 16 online to take part of this deal
2. Once phone is delivered, activate the phone and place a test call
3. Call Verizon or log into your Verizon account to pay off the phone and cancel your service within 3 days of activation
4. Receive the $500 walmart gift card
5. iPhone is unlocked after 60 days despite not paying for a Verizon plan at all

At least do some research. iPhone are esim only. You cannot do sim swap. That method is for Samsung phone or iPhone 13 or earlier

Thanks for pointing this out. Totally forgot about the AT sim swap trick. What exactly is the process to transfer esim? Last time I did it was psim and it was straightforward.

Wasn't there an issue that the phone is activated by Walmart, so by the time we get it we'd have very little or no time to unlock and cancel it within 3 days?

Also, I did one of the S22 deal from Walmart w/ ATT earlier this year. Do I need a new account for this to work?

If still using Verizon, how difficult is it to 1) do they really you trouble for paying it off with a small amount in store; 2) call to cancel line and get activation fee and monthly bill credited?

Thanks!!

I got the phone, and actived it, there is no esim card pre installed in it, and I called Verizon, they told me, I am new new, so they do not have the information with the phone.I had go to the local store to check the status.

You can't pay off online within a month is their policy. I don't know if a CS can override it. And yes the advantage to activating with Verizon that it automatically gets unlocked after 60 days.

If you running out of 3 day window it's better to do it with ATT as you can get the activation fee voided as one time courtesy. You can still do the SIM swap before cancelling the account that way. Did you mean S24 deal? Yeah you can use the same account. I don't think they care when you are paying off my phone but many stores don't have a way to accept a card so you have to pay by cash and some might not want to take a lot of cash (one other way ATT is better as you can chat and payoff using credit card)2. You can call/chat but you have to within 3 days window for the activation fee voided. Do note both with ATT and Verizon they will send a bill with activation fee and full months bill which you have to talk to them for cancellation refund etc.

Ok i went through other chats, so i get this phone and activate it on my existing Verizon plan as new number then cancel that new number pay off the phone and then use it with my existing number,

1. Does it ever get unlocked if i can cancel that new number?
2. What will be the final price,
899 (to payoff) - 500 gift card + 35 activation fee + 50 (approx) for new line on my existing account
484.64 USD

Does this sound correct?

I don't think Verizon does credit check to add a new line
